reckon what y'all will do when you're looking at 6-5 and a ray goff type deal

Well I can tell you this 9-3 feels pretty bad. You and others keep missing the point. It's not the record that is being questioned. It is who we lose to and how we lose. Bring in someone who goes 6-5 but we don't look woefully outmatched like this year and I will probably feel pretty good compared to post Fl. game or even post Ga Southern win.

Agree 100%, it was not about winning a NC. It's how we lost to quality opponents. We didn't compete. It was embarrassing.

Won't be any worse than 5-21 against winning SEC teams over the last 7 years, and we'll still beat the Vandys and the Kentuckys of the world.

No, 6-5 won't feel better, don't kid Yourself. The record IS the ultimate gage.

this is what i keep coming back to....seems to me, without doing a bunch of research, that much of the time, the coaching carousel just produces worse results.

for sure, Richt was going to win 8 or 9, sometimes 10 games a year and occasionally 11 or 12....how much better you gonna get than that in the toughest conference in the country? and i dont buy this malarkey about the 'weak SEC east'...it's not weak, no matter how much ESPN likes to say it and no matter how much the like to pimp the SECW as being the best ever....most of that is hype and washes out in the end of every season.

the new coach has got to immediately win 10 games a year, and win not only an SEC championship but a national playoff championship...IMMEDIATELY....and do it every year or he'll be fired.....that's damn near impossible given all the other restrictions in play (namely that UGA doesn't seem to want to cheat like the Auburns of the world) ...especially if they decide to hire an assistant off another staff...hell, that's damn near impossible for anybody not named Nick Saban or Squirrelhade

reality will come crashing in soon enough...BUT....the flip side may well be that for 2 or 3 years, the new coach will do outstanding things with CMRs old players...so short term it might work out 'OK' but just OK...after that, i dont see it

another upside is that no matter what UGA will basically print money off the football program....so really no loss in revenue will ever occur...so from that perspective there's very little downside to swapping Head Football coaches every 3 years or so

I don't understand why you think UGA fans won't give the new guy a chance. Beating a dead horse here but you just don't want to listen. Richt's last SEC championship was 2005. 10 yrs ago. We can all lament the 5 yards and we would be playing for a championship from 2012 but the facts are we have been inconsistent now for years. Look at how Bama and Ohio State fans react after losses. Those are programs that have the fans you are referring to not UGA.

why should a new coach be given a chance to have a poor record? we just fired a coach who had an outstanding record...one of the best in the country, year in year out....why accept worse?

i just read an outstanding article that parallels us to Tennessee.....i hope like hell it doesn't turn out that way . i also see what's happened to Nebraska after they fired a coach that won 9 or 10 ballgames a year, year in/year out....want another example? look at auburn and their ridiculous coaching carousel

i guess it's not enough to win 9 or 10 games a year...you have to beat your opponent into the ground and if you are unfortunate to lose, you better lose by only one point....dadgum foolishness, if you ask me

You just don't get it. It isn't the record, it is who we lost to and how we lost. If you are so fixated on wins and losses then really look at our record against ranked opponents. We lost against the only 3 teams we played this year. Same can be said for years past.

I know the image in your profile is off the web, but based on your posts that is exactly how I picture you.

well, highly ranked teams are ranked that way for a reason....i wonder what ALL teams records vs. highly ranked teams is? what about that huh? dont like that one? how about the records of teams ranked 11 through 25 vs top 10? what would that be? i can imagine the top 10 teams win more than the bottom 15

again....he averaged winning 9 or 10 games a season...or whatever it was...it was better than almost every other coach in america, consistently, year in year out, and he did it the right way, year in year out.

there is pretty much nowhere to go but down here fellas....sorry you're too gomered up to understand that, but ti's the truth....dont think so? go ask UTK, or UTaustin, or Nebraska, or Southern Cal, or hell...even South Carolina running SOS offt....or a dozen others that let a handful of big money donors that know more about beer distribution, decide who stays or who goes.

half of this was about power over resources, the other half about unrealistic expectations....football seems to have been lost somewhere in there.

Great question, here are end of year stats. I guess if you are OK with being below South Carolina then you would want to keep Richt. I don't need stats to tell me that it is even worse over the past 3 years, do you?
Last 10 years v/s EOY ranked teams:

LSU: 48 games 27-21
Alabama: 46 games 25-21
Auburn: 50 games 21-29
Florida: 49 games 20-29
South Carolina: 47 games 19-28
Georgia: 46 games 17-29
Arkansas: 50 games 11-39
Ole Miss: 47 games 10-37
Tennessee: 47 games 7-40
Kentucky: 39 games 3-36
Miss St: 45 games 3-42
Vanderbilt: 38 games 2-36
Missouri: 35 games 9-26
Texas A&M: 46 games 11-35

After watching that press conference, Coach Mark Richt won! He looked SOOO relieved, mentioned 33 yrs as coach is a grind, basically said HC isn't fun, much prefers coaching QBs, etc......I think he was deep inside wanting out but couldn't do it. UGA made the decision for him and he's grateful. He said he's at peace with it. I believe him. He said from his very 1st press conference he only wanted to coach 15 yrs. I believe he wanted out, but how do you go, when so many more coaches and their families depend on you to keep your job?

He won! I feel better after the presser.

That kinda changes how you might look at those things tho doesn't it? Cry all you want about it, UGA ain't bama and never will be. All other SEC schools cept LSU (go figure) have losing records too....overwhelmingly so .... Thanks for making my point so well. As to the SC comment , that's just stupid
