under game conditions ,,, in a game not scrimmage. There are a lot of players, particularly quarterbacks, that don't seem to show up well in practices, but are terrific players in games. Two immediately come to mind; Francis Tarkenton and Billy Lothridge. I get the impression that Bauta was (is) a better game day player than in practice. Bobby Dodd once said that Lothridge would never make the team if you went by what he did in practice, but "turn on the lights and put 50,000 people in the stands and he's an all American" (his words not mine). Francis had such a weak arm after he got hurt that his passes looked like wounded ducks when he was side by side with the other QBs in practice. But him in a critical game situation and few were better. Hate it if the staff writes Bauta off.
