I mentioned in the other thread that I taught the student who lives in the apartment/duplex that was hit by the car. I'm also friends with the Dad. Big UGA fan, grad. Anyways there's more to the story. I'm sharing what the father told me. Some of the information comes from police here and in Athens. Some from his daughter. Since this is 2nd hand stuff, let's keep it here until independently verified.
This was Monday night I believe. Two athletes were racing in the complex. 2nd player didn't wreck. I know his name and more specifics on his actions but I'm not going to post it yet. But anyways from what I was told, it appears they were racing, Easley losing control, hits the green power box, knocks out power. He hits my former students car on the way to hitting the apartment. Her car is really bad. it also slide into her roommates car after impact.
Her dad told me she was in the shower when it happened. She got out, dressed and her and her roommates went to investigate. They couldn't get out of the front door. so they went out of the back. Driver was panicking or whatever and told them he had full insurance and he was apologizing. Daughter took photos of the damage to the car and apartment. The next day she also took photos of the tire skids. I saw all the photos and I can't begin to say how insane it is to drive fast in that area much less race. If a girl was walking her dog or something, they'd be dead. Just stupid behavior.
The mom emailed the athletic department Tuesday and they had replied within 10 minutes. Since then they have talked to Josh Brooks several times. I mean Josh has called. AD is handling it the right way and are going to take of this.
From what the Dad was told, a warrant for Easley is supposed to be issued today. I'm going to guess the 2nd athlete will be charged for a lesser charge at some point. That's just my assumption from what I was told. I've seen all the photos she took. It could have been A LOT worse.
