I know not all of yall are Christ followers or religious in anyway. But there’s still a lesson in this for yall as well. Beware, it’s a long one, but worth it.

Back in May 2019, my prior wife was having an affair on me. I was a cop at the time, my dream job, and had been for 5 years. I was next in line to be a detective, set to join the hostage negotiation team, and set to try out for the SWAT team. Learning of the possible affair wrecked me and I spent 3 months or so investigating everything to confirm the affair. During this time, I used my work computer to verify the guy involved by running his tag and license through GCIC. If you do not know, this is not only against agency rules in every agency, but also against the law. Once I was able to confirm the affair, I confronted her and then advised my supervisors of everything. I told them what I was going through and that I had used GCIC improperly. They immediately took me off the road, placed me on admin leave, and called GBI to investigate the situation. GBI concluded their investigations and recommended no charges to the DA of my county because I was truthful about everything and there was nothing more to the incident. Well, the DA at the time hated our agency and decided to ignore GBIs recommendation and take me to grand jury on three felonies. When this was decided, the agency chief at the time said he no choice but to fire me. Again, my world was wrecked. This is what I had worked for and I was just getting into the prime of my LE career.

To shorten the story, I’ll just explain some important details afterward briefly and then skip to today.

That DA ended up resigning because he was having an affair with his office administrator. The new DA two years later ended up dismissing the case and I was never charged or taken to grand jury.

My prior wife ended up divorcing and I endured 2 absolute hell of some years fighting for custody of my daughter. I eventually got full custody about 5 years later, but it took my prior wife being a prostitute and drug addict for this to happen. Please pray for her!

I got remarried and had 4 other kids with my current wife. I also got into insurance, opened my own agency, sold it last year, and now work for a larger agency making more money than I ever have.

Lastly, my relationship with God has gotten so much stronger through the years since and I have changed dramatically from who I was as a cop.

Now, we get present time. Ever since being fired, I have struggled with not being in LE anymore. I have had some dark times where I was depressed and just breaking down with my wife. A few months ago, my wife suggested I apply for my LE certificates to be reinstated in an attempt to get back into LE. I did that and had my hearing yesterday……

Out of 14 applicants, I was the only one approved for reinstatement. The common denominator for all of the 13 denials? They all lied and tried to cover up their actions. I was the only one that told the truth immediately and owned up to what I did. I was ultimately rewarded for that.

So the lesson in all of this, if we don’t already know it, is that honesty and integrity is key. Lying about your actions will always hurt you in the long run, often times more than your actions actually will.

Another lesson for the Christ followers: Ever since I was fired, I drew closer to God, sought His desires for my life, remained obedient to him, and persevered in what was right regardless of what I would have to face. God rewarded me for that. 1 Timothy 4:7 is correct when it tells us to fight the good fight, finish the race, and keep the faith. It may be immediate, it may take several years, or it may not be until you see Christ again in heaven, but if you draw clos to God, stay obedient, and stay true to what is right, God will reward you eventually and His blessings will be far greater than anything you can imagine! Trust me, I’m living it!
