Building a wall to keep illegals out and terrorist is not an extreme exercise, It is a prudent and necessary action we must take to protect our nation from terrorist and to many people taking from the system and not contributing back. Try to go into Mexico for 3-4 weeks and see how you are treated by their border officials.

Look at the cost of not building the wall. If people will not follow the rules we must force them to follow the rules.
We have by the Mexican governments estimation over 300,000 illegal immigrants from south of our border, our government says a little over 100,000. We all know the estimate is closer to the first. We can not sustain a population that takes more than it contributes, no partisan politics just the cold hard facts. This includes American Citizens on welfare at some point we run out of other peoples money to pay for these "goodies".

The 245-mile security fence in Israel cost $450 million, averaging $1.8 million per mile. Assuming the completion of our security fence would cost the same amount, the total tab would come in at just under $2 billion. Even if we use higher estimates of 9 million per mile, as estimated by DHS for the cost of the San Diego fence, that would amount to roughly $6 billion for the project.
Now consider the cost savings of each illegal alien inhibited from entering the country. According to a conservative estimate by Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation, for every illegal alien that returns home (or is prevented from crossing the border), taxpayers save $700,000. That means we would reach the break-even point after preventing just the first 8,500 illegal immigrants from crossing. Moreover, the cost of other assets that don’t work or are manipulated by the political management will surpass the cost of the border fence and having the fence as a force multiplier will decrease the need for other assets.

your math is wrong and your tone is poor.....it's 2000 miles of border we are talking about , and it's most likely not a simple mathematical progression from the 60 miles in San Diego to 2000 miles x 2 (double walled transparent Great Wall of Murrca) .... a 4000 mile long, double fence , transparent, full of tech, and with an army of guys to monitor it
and dont forget we'd be building the largest modern wall...EVER .... to keep out 8500 illegal immigrants, as you put it....why not just save the 100s of billions of dollars, probably even trillions, and spend it on ourselves in some meaningful way instead of a giant project with zero ROI? why not just pay those 8500 to stay home?

Although your's says it is difficult to estimate the full cost until the wall is complete, it gives similar estimates of what my conservative review provided. Then there is this little nugget from your nbc article, due to a 19' wall being built in El Paso:
