Marcus Lattimore was a similar talent, and also a great young man. He had The ACL injury, came back and tore it again. It cost the young man his life's dream.
If Nick was my Son, I'd pray hard on what to advise him if this is such a serious injury as we think it might be.

If he's got a torn ligament or two, he won't have any choice but to sit out. Doubtful he will be healed enough. That is usually an 18-24 month turnaround. Look at Keith Marshall.

Gurley was back playing NFL ball in under 11 months. This isn't money ball though. Nick doesn't owe this program anything. I wouldn't recommend such a radical move for a player at any other position. RBs have the shortest average careers in team sports as it is. After an ACL injury it's even shorter.

I agree with you. The only problem with sitting out is you're not ready for the NFL when the time comes and his draft stock would be hurt tremendously if he sat out.

Seen my sons injured pretty badly playing tackle football, and as a dad it's hell to watch all the suffering to play sometimes, but they all do it for a chance to compete. One of my boys had a cervical sprain that left him paralyzed
for a few hours and he left the game on a backboard racing to the hospital in an ambulance. I was blessed to have the best spinal doc in town with a kid on our team and 2 ex-NFL defensive linemen (Corey Simon was one) who had kids on our team so they knew what was up. Didn't clear all my worry but they had all seen horrific impacts and results like that before.
Those moments are hell to live inside of as a dad. Makes you wonder about
yourself when you let them play again. We celebrate courage in people for a reason though.

Richt said he is optimistic thT Chubb won't need surgery. Hope that is good news for the kid

Nick is a competitor. He won't sit out under any cicumstances. He is one of the best.

He will play hard for Coach Smart next year.

I suspect he'd kill it at The Combine and still get drafted in the 1st rd. Even if he slips a rd He might be wise to avoid the risk and wear of another season of college ball.
My bottom line is, the young man needs to do the smart thing for himself and his family. I think our coaches should be honest and drop the sales pitches in this case as well.

That sounds like the sort of thing used to get green soldiers to volunteer for dangerous duty. If Nick chooses to sit out next season it'll be for the right reasons and I'll fully support and respect his decision.

That would be fantastic news. I didn't see nearly the lateral movement in his knee as I saw in Gurley's when he was tested on the sideline. TG's knee looked to move 3 inches to either side.

If he doesn't test the knee, along with the propensity to not draft backs as high unless studs...it'll be iffy where he goes and that first contract is huge for RBs. Granted, TG went high, but he wasn't 1.5 years removed from playing, which Chubb would be.

I'll be shocked if he ever plays another down for UGA even if he is completely healed by August next year. I wouldn't.

The equation is likely different now. Unless more damage is found than expected, or there's some other setback, I think He'll play.

True, but to Me the risk/reward equation would have favored sitting out had the injury included a complete tear of the ACL. Now that there is no apparent damage to the ACL I expect He'll play. I still don't think staff should do a sales job to convince him to play though.
