Window lickers in this country, we probably wouldn't even be having this debate on guns. Let's face it, 90% of the laws are created because 10% of the population in this country is just to damn stupid to know right from wrong. As a result , law abiding citizens get the shaft for it. Maybe we can all agree on that.

Really all criminal laws are made for criminals, so Your point is valid. That doesn't mean We should abandon those laws though.
The thing is NOBODY on here is arguing for anything that would affect law abiding gun owners. That is unless they wish to keep guns hidden from the law, in that case I think they are being paranoid, a tad selfish, or both. We all jump through a few hoops to help law enforcement catch criminals. Every time We show our IDs it's because the few try to get by with criminal behavior.

Living in a society worth living in requires a bit of sacrifice by good citizens like Us.

I get that, but we have sacrificed and sacrificed to the breaking point. And it does affect me. It affects my right to privacy. How far do law abiding citizens have to be pushed? Hasn't government intruded into our lives enough. They know everything from how much we make to what bank we use to what car we drive. With the NSA, they probably even know if our spouses are cheating on us. At some point the intrusion into our lives has to stop. This whole gun thing is my breaking point. The government needs to get the fock out of my house. If i need their advice or help I'll call them.

Few thoughts: You are correct but you didn't go far enough.

(1) The mass killers and the folks screaming to seize firearms are basically cut from the same cloth. Both are misfits trying to get even with the more normal, self confident, better adjusted people. Those who have stepped out and made something of their lives and want to protect their families and or enjoy hunting and some just like collecting rare or unique or beautiful, even historic firearms. Both suffer from being envious of people who have it together and want to lash out in one way or another. Make him or his family suffer so they can feel the pain they are feeling. Or win some sort of feeble victory and cut the target of their feelings of inferiority down to their size. I took his guns by damn!

(2) Most intelligent people are wary of registering their long guns and collectors firearms simple because they are smart enough to realize the anti-gun nuts will never be satisfied until they ban all guns and ownership. Even though they are the most law abiding and least likely of any Americans to commit violence...EVER, they know that the nuts want to know who has what for a reason. Therefore they are not too keen on letting giving the nuts a road map to grab their favorite side by side bird gun. One they may never use again and may have not fired for years. My friends really have no problem registering a pistol but revolt at their shotguns or hunting rifle.

Seriously though. When was the last time Government intrusion was a tangible factor in a day in your life ?. I'm not referring to taxes, they are a fact of life for adults, tough shit, deal with it.
I'm referring to the real freedoms to come and go as we please, take any job the market offers, live anywhere we can afford, etc, etc.
Try a week on The West Bank Of The Gaza or in Lil Kim's Korea and see how your attitude is when you come back home.
Also, I don't mean to be insulting, but almost nobody is interested in taking guns away. I bet you could fit every Congressperson interested in radical gun control in an enclosed phone booth, if you could find one. None of those with any real power give a rat's ass about that, Nancy Pilosi doesn't, that part is BS being embedded in minds from one person to another. It's in their heads, it's not a real issue.

Helen,
1) We should never just suck it up and deal with it when it comes to taxes. We should demand the answers. After all it is OUR money they are using, they should be held to the highest level of accountability.
2) As an officer of a business, how long do you have to talk about government intrusion? Heck, even extreme liberals like John Oliver talk about it (seizing cash under the presumption that it is used criminally.)
3) in your first reply, you are kind of toting a line that resembles "those with nothing to hide don't have anything to worry about" whereas I believe that "those who have done nothing wrong, shouldn't have to divulge anything unless reasonable enough proof for a warrant exists."

Opy, my answers and yours' on taxation probably couldn't be much different. Clinton's 1993 bill should be the model. The no tax fools are bankrupting this country.

Strutting paranoia isn't something ''normal people'' envy. The real ''gun nuts'' you claim as confident and normal are anything but. They are paranoid and gripped with fear of anything they can't understand, which is most things worth understanding. It's a fitting symbol the way they horde guns and hide from the world, unless they have a cache of weapons to substitute for real courage.

While taxes are and always will be a necessary evil, I would like to get out of the income tax gain and go to a consumption tax. Overall, it would simplify many lives and also cut expenses quite a bit. Get rid of a tax code full of loopholes and idiotic "credits" that really give money from one person to another (the child tax credit.)
