If you're sick, do you want the most qualified or most religious surgeon working on you?

PS: Would you take Baylor's Art Brile's as a coach? He grew up in a snake handling sect in Rule, Texas.

There's no reason to bring Richt's faith into this that isn't plain trashy. He wasn't given the job because of his faith and he hasn't kept it for that reason.
If You can't make your case without resorting to low rent tactics, maybe you should just shut up.

But the "great guy" and "Christian Guy" arguments as reason to keep him are used often.
Where are they used ? I only see the CLAIM it's used by those who insult CMR in uncalled for ways on these boards.
I will say I'd rather never win a national title with a good man than win one with a POS like Pigtrino. There are many coaches that would be acceptable MEN as well as good coaches though.
No Richt has had an ability to rally at critical points. Today he didn't respond well to a terrible home loss though, We'll see how he responds in the coming weeks.

There is no reason to bring Richt's faith into the argument; but that's exactly what his supporters do on a regular basis. The "he's a such a good man" crowd quietly allude to the same trait in his defense.

My point is exactly what it is: "At what point does competency out-weigh preferred character traits or beliefs?"

Churches, and particularly Methodist churches, change pastors all the time. It can be completely unrelated to the spirituality of the pastor; and, often, it is because the ministry has gone stale or an opportunity to grow the ministry is being lost.

The same should apply to the secular realm. Mark Richt is a good man with strong, respectable beliefs. He is a fine role model for young men. He just can't get it done at UGA... no matter how much talent he surrounds himself with. And, he should be replaced.

I keep seeing people like You claiming Richt gets support because of His faith. I rarely see where people actually state He should be kept for that reason though.
It was never used in this discussion except by those claiming it is used.
why bring it into the discussion when it hadn't been mentioned by Richt supporters ?

Richt is a fine man though, and that should factor in the equation. He does have a huge responsibility beyond the football field. He will have the biggest influence over thousands of young men at a critical point in their development. To ignore that responsibility would to be to con parents and cheat players.

Helen, check social media, heck, last week an article was making rounds about how we should overlook results on the field. Not saying anyone with power is using it, then again, they won't go public either way. Part of the job....

First off, the handle is HEULEN HUND, which is German for Howling Dog. I know why many post ''Helen'', but I'll give you the benefit of doubt since you're generally a straight shooter.

Back on topic. I'm sure somewhere somebody is using the argument You state they do. It wasn't being used here though. Also these post on Richt's faith too often are very insulting to Richt as a Man for something that makes him exceptional beyond football, which is just plain wrong.

Sorry, thought it is Helen and was just too lazy to type it all. I tried to quote so not have to say name, but it didn't work for some reason.

he is a great man, great christian...not great at his job and is getting worse it seems.

Richt has stated in the past that "winning isn't that important" or words to that effect

I don't recall that...i remember him talking like that about fame and such. That said, I don't care if he believes that as long as he can get it done at the highest level...he can't.

Ok, here's the exact quote...

There’s something besides winning that’s important here. It doesn’t diminish how important winning is. That’s the part some people get confused about. I mean, winning is supremely important to me and the rest of the staff. But in the process of winning and teaching these guys how to play football, there’s just as great or a greater cause, I think.

He has been very good at his job though. Unfortunately this is a best and the rest business. With the commitment from so many to this program the measure is whether he can compete for a national title, that judgment took a step in the wrong direction today.
I still say barring a collapse the best thing is to let this staff have through 2017, by then We'll see if they can max out the great talent coming in. I fear we'll start losing more of the recruiting battles if we have another couple of games like today's and last week's though. We need those great DLs and OLs we're going after. It looks like The Vols are leading for yet another 5 star WR from Georgia. Who was the last 5 star WR from our great state NOT TO sign with them ? it's a strange thing.

UT has the perception as WR U.

I wouldn't say very good at his job, especially the last 8. Very good coaches will lose, but very few will get an annual beat down by someone, especially a team that doesn't match them in talent. They've failed to max out the talent the past 8 years, doubt that will change. I think a lot depends on UF and GT this year. IF one blows us out and we lose to both........

He MIGHT can, he almost did in 2012. I'm most discouraged by Pruitt's defense right now. He was supposed to be that critical piece that has been missing since VanGorder left the farm. I don't like what I'm seeing and I don't like what I'm hearing from Coach Pruitt either. He insisted his staff did all the right things last week, and he stumbled over his words while doing so,
That could just being temporary and these guys could mature into something great though. We've come this far, we need to give them time to work their plan.

He IS very good, you can't win 10 games on average at this level without having a lot on the ball. The question, is he good ENOUGH to win it all at this level ? He did come damn close in 2012 after maybe his worse loss ever in that year's SC game. That's what makes today so discouraging. He knew how important it was to come out blazing today after getting our asses handed to us at home by Saban,, but he couldn't get it done. He can't let UF embarrass the team though. if that happens I'll re-evaluate my position.

See, I don't see very good as certain results just in a number. I think he is good, and with our talent in state, good should get you 9-10 wins depending on schedule and whatnot. Very good is right below the overused great....He's good in my book, but very good would mean not getting blown out and also winning a game every year or two that you shouldn't. Can anyone remember a game we won where we really shouldn't have won that game?

Time for cmr to go do mission work, Helen

Three religious texts refer to the event. Why is it so hard to believe?
It's hard to believe that 2 each of several thousand species of animals fit into a craft the size of a WW2 aircraft carrier. There are several possibilities for the story...it's an exageration of an actual event, Noah was a bio engineer and all the animals were fertilzed embryos, or Noah was a Time Lord and the Ark was his TARDIS.

But that's just my opinion,

He is the doctor and he saves people...but which companion?

Sarah jane maybe...Donna Noble...dear God nooooooooo. She wasn't bad, and was needed as a transition...but no.

I'm reminded of Billy Crystal's character in The Princess Bride where he's explaining how a guy is ''mostly dead''. I get your point though. I can't recall many wins against teams that clearly had more talent than us. We came very close against Bama in 2012 and our coaches abused Auburn's staff last season. We have lost too many where we clearly had superior talent though.
No doubt Richt has some troubling tendencies that persist to this day.

I guess my main problem is this: first, just because we weren't there didn't mean it didn't happen. I can see your point about the scale of the Ark and the number of animals, but with God all things are possible. And God was involved in the flood. Look how Jesus fed the 5000 with 2 fish and 5 loaves and the Scripture said people were full and there were left overs. That seems physically impossible; without God, it is impossible. On our scale, these things are hard to fathom. But if God makes it so, He makes it so.

The second problem I have is how some people deride or ridicule others because they would have faith to believe that a miracle beyond our comprehension can happen. The question in this post is would I rather have the most qualified or the most religious surgeon. Certainly, I would want the most qualified, but would you have a problem if the most qualified was also the most religious. Would you think that person less qualified if they told you they also believed in the story of the Ark, Creation, the Exodus, etc.?

Many times, under the care of a surgeon, even the best, they are limited in what they can do. In those times, we too are hoping for a miracle, even if it is one that cannot be explained through science or accomplished through human hands alone.

I never meant to ridicule anyone's faith, seriously. I envy those with absolute faith, I wish I had it, but I just don't. Too many questions that defy logic. I would have no problem if the most qualified surgeon also had the most faith. But I would be putting my life in his hands based on his skill, not his faith. We put the team in Richts hands based on his skill and that skill is slipping

I appreciate your clarification. With regards to faith, it's not quite a like a light switch or something that's innately within. It's been my experience that it's built up as we wrestle hard questions of life, but knowing that God loves each one of us as his children, and that through building that faith we become the people He wants us to be. Faith is not blindingly following or bleating like sheep, but encouraging in asking questions and seeking the truth.

Now, back to football: I agree about the slipping skill. I think he's a good leader, but I want to see more passion, enthusiasm, and desire to win on the sideline.

Ben Carson would not want a Muslim surgeon as President of the United States. Nor would he want to eat a sturgeon cooked by a Muslim. Ben Carson would not want muslin sheets or drapes.
Ben Carson is right. Ben Carson is rich. Ben Carson is a self made man and brilliant one at that. Whitepug is wrong. Whitepug is none of those other things either, in fact he is almost assuredly a down the line stiff barely making it. Whitepug is no Dr Ben Carson.
