I've pondered it a tad and He makes perfect sense.
First off He started His coaching career in 1997 as a GA for Saban at Michigan St. He left for a year to be DB coach. Saban brought Him back to coach MSU's DBs. He took Him to LSU as DB coach, and again to The Cleveland Browns as DB coach. Interestingly he replaced Grantham as DC when CTG was fired from The Browns. He immediately vastly improved their defense. He has been DC at 3 stops in The NFL and He was very successful at 2 of them.
So He was hired at Bama to coach DBs, which is a near sacred position on a Saban team. More to the point, I don't know of any defensive coordinator for a Saban coached team who didn't rise from being a DB coach..

Tucker
Muschamp
Kirby
Pruitt....all former DB coaches.
I like the idea of Lupoi, but Tucker makes too much sense to guess anybody else.

Is he the DB coach at Bama now? Why on earth would a guy with that resume be a position coach now? Why do you believe he's the best fit at UGA?

Because Kirby is a Saban DB prodigy, as was Tucker.
More to the point are the reasons I mentioned in The OP.
It's a confluence of factors, including the fact Kirby hasn't openly hired His DC yet. which points to His Guy likely being on Bama's staff right now.

Also it was reported Tucker was Saban's second choice to replace Kirby if He couldn't get Pruitt. The Dawg Tide spit swap is very interesting.

My question would be is tucker the only one coming because if Mel leaves with Kirby others have to follow.

I'm not sure other Bama coaches would necessarily have to come if Tucker gets Our DC job. We have Our DL and OLB coaches. Tucker coaches DBs, that would leave the ILB job, and Schuman might fill that position.

Yea I could see that I'm thinking that will happen my only question is the offensse.

I think We're all hoping McClendon is retained. I don't really care what offensive position he coaches. Oddly I haven't given any thought at all to which Bama offensive coaches Kirby might target.

Ok just wandering I'm fine with Mel tucker.

He's figured out what he did wrong. He's perfected the no arms tackling method.
