What is so impressive about this?
Don't tell me about Auburn. Ole Miss was coming off a bye, had already played a couple of road games, and got Auburn right after Auburn's trip to LSU. We catch Auburn in that spot, it's worse that a 7 point win. tech got the game to 7 points with about 10 minutes in the 4th quarter also, before Ole Miss reeled off a couple of quick scores. LSU has allowed 39 or more points four times this year, and 31 one other time. If you can fog a mirror, you can score on LSU. Texas A&M almost snapped what was an 8-game road losing streak in Oxford last weekend. If we get Texas A&M at home, are we allowing 35 points? Or winning by 3?
Ole Miss has played one good defense this year and they scored 10 points against it. In terms of points allowed, our defense hasn't been on the same level as the last two years. But if you look deeper, how many times have we failed to get a stop when we really needed to get one (the second half of a close game)? Not very often. Maybe once, at Auburn.
I think if Ole Miss and Missouri play on a neutral field, Missouri wins by 7-10. Missouri is a better football team. Our crowd will be more into the Ole Miss game given that its at night and, for whatever reason, MIssouri just doesn't get people excited. I'm not sure why anyone would think that Ole Miss is going to fare better than Missouri did.
This is starting to feel like some of the talk that we heard before the Kentucky game, about what a bad matchup they were for us... we saw how that turned out. I don't understand that anxiety here. Tell me what Ole Miss has done this year that warrants that.
Tennessee concerns me more, just because it's on the road. I would feel different too if we were going to Oxford. But we aren't. We've lost two home games that have kicked off later than 12:00pm since Isaiah Crowell was our running back. Those came to the eventual National Champion in 2015 and to the Champions of Life in 2016. Ole Miss isn't either of those. And we aren't what we were those two years either, but a long shot.
