Given the commitment of Curtis and the ensuing discussion about when he may first see the field, I thought I would pass on these thoughts.

We've spent the last couple of years attempting to navigate the NIL and transfer portal landscape. We've seen transfers explode and players "hold out" in college football to renegotiate their deals. The complexity of this situation will be significantly increased by the revenue sharing permitted under the House settlement, and the resulting contracts being entered into between players and schools. I anticipate that all of these factors are going to combine to: (1) put pressure on schools to develop and play QBs as quickly as possible; (2) cause schools and players to enter two (2) year contracts; and (3) prevent schools from stacking star QBs on the bench.

Schools are simply going to end up dumping too much money into star QBs coming out of high school to pay them to sit the bench for 3 years of development. Nor will schools be able to pay 3 QB's top dollar.
Across the college universe, I expect to see front-loaded QB development programs, early QB competitions, increasing QB transfers (even more than now), and an increasing spread of the QB talent pool. Players that develop quickly will be rewarded with a second contract of increased value, and players that do not increasingly will be processed or transfer looking for another opportunity.

When Curtis lands in Athens -- Pugs and Montgomery will be on hand. I don't anticipate that we'll see a long development process. Either he will show sufficient promise that he'll play quickly (and others will transfer) or he will transfer.

Before you point me to Arch Manning and the cautious development process employed in that context, his situation is pretty unique:
  • His first two years were before revenue-sharing.
  • His family has all the money than it needs;
  • His family has 3 All-Pro NFL QBs and values the development time (agents are not running the show with the Mannings).
