Is Kim Davis really a threat to humanity as many comedians and Hollywood tweeters would have us believe? Or is she simply a convenient and SAFE target that the "recess cowards" of the world can smugly snicker over? We are so quick to laugh at their humor, whether the target is school officials and the "clock bomb" or Sarah Palin's family issues or the Ben Carson "sleep system" or Trump's bluster or law enforcement bloopers or Kim Davis's attempt at world domination.
We (almost ALL of us) continue to breathlessly respond to symptoms of our bigger problems. And we do this only because the symptoms are safe to touch, easier to laugh at and much more effective argument starters. The real core of most every major problem we face is never funny or safe or easy to solve or even discuss. WE are all guilty of substituting or pretending boredom with topics or peoples that truly scare the hell out of us, because we think we know that if we confront them head on with a complete plan and effort, that we will cause some people to get killed, maybe us. And we had rather whistle through the grave yard than to openly and honestly discuss our neighborhoods, our communities, our nation and the world as they REALLY ARE (their circumstances internally as well as externally caused), not as we would like them to be (more accurately WISH they were).
Let's joke about Kim Davis. She's a backsliding Christian, no harm will come to us from her or from TV evangelists or from anyone she knows or has been married to. But let us NOT joke about goofy, young Ahmed and his briefcase clock. His family probably knows some people who will kill us. Deflection (our new art form in social and political circles) is just another form of hiding and/or avoiding the truth (the whole truth version). Not talking religious, ethnic or social prejudice here. Those were/are parlor games in comparison to one crowd, who has ALWAYS sought world domination. I'm talking an actual, growing, physical threat to your home and to your family regardless of your political affiliation or your favorite color or Kardashian. The real enemy is at the freaking gate, folks. Snickers anyone? Smug wisecracks? You, my friends, are running out of hiding places, and I'm getting too old to care what happens to you and your loved ones if you continue to not care about real solutions. "Just say no" and mean it. That really is all it takes.
