because football is the ultimate “team” sport, and one cannot account for the quality of the offense and defense played under different coaches. A quarterback is no better than his offensive line, wide, receivers, and running backs. If a quarterback is able to run the ball, or at least scramble enough to buy time to throw the ball, he has a great advantage. I will always love Stetson for what he did in helping UGA to win two back to back national championships.
Can you imagine what Tarkenton could have done on a Kirby Smart football team; Andy Johnson, DJ Shockley, Eric Zeier, Andy Murray, Matthew Stafford would all have been great quarterbacks on a Kirby Smart coached football team, certainly capable of winning two straight national championships. You can say who your favorite is or the most accomplished (Stetson), but it’s impossible to say which one is the best.
