It’s not “if”, but “when”…

It’s not “if” we lose a game, it’s “when” we lose a game - how will you react?

I’ve been thinking about this all season and while it might not be the perfect time to write out my thoughts (especially for the superstitious among us), it’s a matter of time before our incredible, record setting win streak is over.

“When” it happens - Will you leave early? Will you boo our Bulldogs from your seats? Will you sit numb and do nothing? Or will you talk about the horrible officiating or blame everything and everybody for the loss?

I am likely to l have a combination of disappointment and despair, but I will also have a healthy dose of admiration and appreciation for what our boys have accomplished. I’m gonna do the opposite of what you might think. I will stand and applaud our Dawgs with a fervor that reaches Sanford Stadium “If your blood runs red and black…” entrance levels.

Fan bases of 29 straight wins by their beloved team tend to forget what it’s like to lose. Right, wrong or indifferent- we’ve become spoiled. I walk (I’ve only missed 2 of the 29 wins in person) into every game hopeful and excited, but I’ve also become conditioned to believe we will win every game and, “By Gawd”, had better do it with style points along the way. Never mind the injuries, bad calls, bad bounces or opposing teams’ motivations - we’re Georgia damnit - we don’t lose anymore. Yep, I’m spoiled.

“When” the clock hits zero and the streak eventually ends - Stand and applaud. Cheer like you might on a big 3rd down stop by our defense. Recognize the ride we’ve been on and acknowledge the history that’s been made. Cheer loudly for our coaches and even louder for our Seniors and playmakers. Send the message to our team that we, the Bulldog Nation, have adopted their mantras: we are connected as a fan base to them; we will display composure when things don’t go our way and finally, we appreciate the sacrifice these young men have made with their physicality and determination to “hunker it down” over and over again.

I hope it’s another 29 straight wins connected to our current streak. Heck, nothing would make winning our 30th straight any more sweet than taking down the most spoiled fan base I know of … Alabama.

How will you handle yourself? Please feel free to join me and make it a standing ovation like no other!

Go Dawgs!!
