Brilliant. I'm not a fan of Trump the person, but he and the GOP are putting on a clinic in how to produce a convention. Can't hand our country over to these "progressive" socialists.
Curious if any of you Law and Order Republicans take issue with the incineration of the Hatch Act? Or an event during an pandemic that goes against all of the CDC guidelines?

Solid response.

Anyone else care to take a swing? I am honestly curious if any Trump supporters have any issue at all with using the White House as a backdrop for a campaign event. Gore was absolutely destroyed by Republicans for using a government phone to solicit donations when he was VP, so I am interested to hear what people’s thoughts are on this issue.

Did CNN send you their talking points? You do know that the Hatch Act doesn’t apply to the President and Vice President? Your second point isn’t even worth commenting on.

You are the joke or a socialist I don't which. You can hate on Trump for his personality but his love for America and his America first will make your life better. Democrat policies are awful and Biden has sold his sole to China. How you can't see that you must watch MSNBC and CNN.

But the Hatch Act applies to every other federal worker, including Ivanka and anyone else who works at the White House and played a role in the event. So I will assume Law and Order means those laws you find politically expedient to abide by.

How is asking about the social distancing during a pandemic not a legitimate question? One prominent supporter of the President died after publicly flouting CDC guidelines. I guess it's another example of rules for thee not rules for me.

No issues here other than Joe's basement as a backdrop for his. Don't you think Covid19 is something to do with him having at the White House.

I've thought since March this was Biden's to lose. With the licking of Kamala, among other problems,. I think he's done his best to give it back to Trump.

The Hatch Act specifically excludes the president and vice president. It is largely an EEOC type policy designed to protect federal employees from coercion. I keep hearing this from CNN, but the House Oversight Committee says this isn't a problem.

It is a break from historical precedent, but I would find other breaks from tradition more seriously. For example, President Obama, for the first time in 240 years, failed to provide for an orderly transition of administrations when he left office. That was not only petty, but created a bunch of national security risks.

As far as the crowd, outdoor political rallies are excluded from those guidelines.

Thank you for the serious response. Engagement absent insults is too rare around this place.

Ivanka was speaking in her personal capacity not as a Federal employee. You do know that Trump is her dad right?

I’m sorry that you’re having a conniption over Trump and his team not hiding in their basement like Biden.

You’ll have to take up any further complaints about the RNC with the G.O.A.T!

LOL. The divisiveness will continue until everyone thinks the way the MSM wants them to think. These "protests" aren't protests and most are based on lies. Unemployment was in record low territory until the Chinese attacked the world and the Democrats wanted to shut down the economy to try and win the election. Plague... lol.

Divisiveness? “Resist”
Protests? There’s only one party supporting the protests and bailing protesters Out of jail to continue their discord.
Unemployment? Lol right, like that was an issue with historical lows. Already recovering quickly if you care to open your eyes.

LMAO, yes, let's enforce the Hatch act for the first time in the history of our country. Of course all those dems meeting with foreign leaders telling them to resist the policies of the POTUS would be in real peril. POTUS and VPOTUS are except but former Sec States and congressional reps are not.

They sound like Barney Fife when they go into the Hatch Act spiel. Since we havent even threatened people with it since John Adams, I admit I don't know much about it, myself.

Not really trying to insult Barney Fife. I liked don knotts from barney to apple dumpling to mr.Hurley (or was it furley?)

I know we don't agree on many things politically but this is why you're one of my favorite liberal posters here. Good civil discussion in disagreement is a healthy thing imo.
Much appreciated.

You might find our views on policy are not as different at you believe.

We definitely differ on Trump himself though. I think he represents an existential threat to our democracy and that is in part why I asked about the Hatch Act. Breaking of norms can be a good thing but there is a reason using federal property to campaign is against federal law. You and others may feel that as long as it is an action to help keep Trump in office and protect against the socialist hoard than it is acceptable. I on the other hand view the breaking of this norm (and law) as something that primarily helps Trump and his election efforts, not the country as a whole. This continues to put us down a path of ends justifying the means, which is fine and well until someone you disagree with takes office and does the same thing.

Changing demographics means that eventually we will either continue to see a leftward shift in our politics or a breaking of our democratic principles. It is inevitable. When that happens, I would greatly prefer we have traditional guardrails in place to help manage those future Presidents. An event like last night will feel awful when we have a hardcore lefty using The People's House as a prop for their own ends.

My main issue was with certain cable networks that keep hammering on the Hatch Act, even though they know that base has been covered.

Truthfully, if we wanted to go Old Testament with the Hatch Act, we would have to start with rounding up every congressman and senator in Washington (which, as I type it, doesn't sound like such a bad idea).

What about the guardrails that allowed a person to defend his home from a trespassing angry mob ?
