I frankly am at a loss.
Warrior
Brown
Robertson
Just to mention 3 huge targets, They all seem to be moving away from Us at this point.
It's not over till it's over, but I am getting worried.
With all the fear and loathing, Saban has never pulled over a top player or 2 from Georgia, Pruitt might prove to be very good at persuading Georgia Kids.

Stop reading recruiting articles. They love to stir up stuff. I doubt any of it holds any water at the end of the day. Besides, Smart is visiting Robertson and Hardman today according to reports. The problem is there is only so many people he can see in a day and these kids change their mind from one minute to the next. I'm not sure Kirby likes Warrior. He's too small to be a safety. 5'11" 185 pounds is on the small side for those positions. Besides, Warrior was already a long shot in my opinion.

I've always felt this year was a crap shoot considering the upheaval of our staff right in the middle of recruiting season. I expect next year's class to be huge. I've always felt this year's class would be smaller and not as good.

I believe what a player says, unless there is reason not to.
Many of Our top instate targets say They've cooled on UGA in the past 2 weeks. It's more than a crapshoot, it is about Kirby's ability to persuade without Saban in the background. It's clear Kids like Him, but closing is a particular skill.

Another thing is, We may never see a 2 year period to match 2015/2016 for instate DL talent, next year isn't remotely close. we desperately need to land Derrick Brown, if We lose Him it's on this staff.
Michail Carter is the other blue chip DL We're still after, He seems to have moved closer to Bama in just the past week.

The problem is these kids will say something else 24 hours later. Smart has really only been recruiting for two weeks. Your panicking over a bunch of 18 year old kids that still haven't committed anywhere. I've also read all of these Dawgnation reports and I haven't heard any quotes directly attributed to them where they said UGA is out of it. Of course Carter is going to be positive on Bama after Saban visits him. He obviously likes Bama because they're losing a ton at his position.

I guess I've just learned to stop worrying about what a bunch of kids say or do. Let them recruit and see what happens. This year was always going to be tough for obvious reasons. I still think we're going to get our fair share.

I'm not panicking, but I am being a realist.
We were at least even for 6 players rated 5 stars 2 weeks ago. The idea We'll be in that situation again next year is questionable. We'll have to pull strongly from out of state to do so, the instate talent falls off quite a bit, other than at DB and QB.
Richt's only weakness in recruiting was closing those late deciders. They are the ones Who are most influenced by salesmanship. I don't think You can recruit at the very top without a great closer at HC.

How can you know whether Smart is a closer when he's been on the job all of two weeks? I'm just not going to worry about something I have no control over. UGA has always recruited extremely well. We'll continue to do so.

We have lagged enough behind the top recruiting programs to make the ultimate difference. Bama won at least 3 of Saban's 4 titles while there with overwhelmingly superior recruiting. The rest is mostly window dressing.

Also, where have I claimed to know whether Kirby is a closer ? It just seems we've lost ground with top recruits the past 2 weeks, that is all.

Like I said before Pruitt imo will do more damage to UGA than smart did when he was at bammer. We shall see.

Yep! And we let him walk away because he hurt somebody's feelings at BM.

The combination of Kirby and Pruitt would have been fantastic. That is contingent on Them working well together, which I think They would have.

What is with this hero worship of Pruitt? What did the guy do to deserve that other than make an ass of himself? His defense was overrated and the result of playing a lot of bad teams with poor QBs. Don't believe that, then check the schedule. He got his ass handed to him by a bad Florida offense twice. Got stomped by Bama and Tennessee this year. He had nothing to do with the indoor facility because that was planned before he ever stepped foot on campus. The last thing a coaching staff needs is turmoil, and he seems to create that everywhere he goes. Hell, FSU didn't even make an attempt to keep him.

So spare me the "hero" worship of Jeremy Pruitt. The guy was a punk. We got the better DC and his name is Smart. Bama's defense will take a step back.

Is Pruitt your brother? Your love of this man is weird. Smart is a far better recruiter who took far more talent out of UGA than Pruitt ever will.

Obviously not since Smart wanted nothing to do with him. If he wanted Pruitt, he would still be here. He was overrated anyway.

Exactly! Smart said he had a "heart to heart" with Pruitt after already working with him at Bama, guess Pruitt realized he couldn't push Kirby around or backstab like he did to CMR OR Kirby decided he couldn't trust him.

I thought Eckler's article was very interesting. Praised Schotty for what he tried to do but when asked about Pruitt and rumors started talking about Ed Orgeron and how great he was as coach and recruiter. He also was one of the ones I heard who refused to come back if Pruitt was on staff this year. (if CMR had not gotten fired) One of many on both sides of the ball. Good riddance, glad he's gone.

Also, Eckler had another good point. He said there's only about 5 recruits every year who truly stand out and are above the rest. The rest of the recruits are all very close in ability. "It's what you do with them in coaching once they get on campus."

Kids bend the conversation to who they are talking to based on the angle of the questions and I would hate to have to play that stupid game but that is why it pays so well.

That is why I don't get this love for Pruitt. I don't think he's a bad coach at all. He's a good coach and recruiter. However, he's not worth the problems he causes, and it's not like he set the world on fire coaching or recruiting. After everything Ekeler has said, it's obvious he was an issue. Tracy Rocker flat out called it a mutiny.

As for our defense, I believe it was overrated. Talented and young, but a very weak schedule and bad QB play made our statistics look better than they are. Rush defense was not all that good. We were ranked something like 48th, give or take a few spots.

Good point. It's almost impossible to tell what an 18 year old is thinking from one moment to the next. I don't know how good we'll close because Smart hasn't had time to build relationships with a lot of these guys the way other coaches have. We'll see. I like our chances though with many of them. Smart is seeing Hardman and Robertson today. Hopefully it goes brilliantly.

I have no love for the man. It is your opinion that smart is a better recruiter than Pruitt. That's ok. Doesn't mean it is true. We shall see who the better recruiter is. Are you smarts brother. They kind of look like mountain folk.

I thought he was recruiting many of the same players as before at bammer. He has had a long relationship with the top recruits in Ga. No excuses if he doesn't get them.

We were very thin on The DL, He was well on the way to fixing that problem though. In 2 years We would have had the best DL in CFB. It's on Kirby to land Derrick Brown and keep adding top flight depth. Pruitt is a great recruiter, His players love Him and He worked near magic with the secondary. I think We had as good a defensive staff as any team in CFB the past 2 seasons.

The thing that sticks out as of this minute is We've actually lost ground with the top Georgia prospects since Kirby ended His commitment to UA.
That may well not add up to anything, but We all expected the opposite trend.

'' Georgia leads right now'', that is something We heard more from instate kids before Kirby got back to Athens. It's not something open to interpretation.

IMO you are correct. Pruitt is a great recruiter. He didn't have much talent on defense when he came. But he would have got them.

Last class was Our best defensive class in Richt's tenure, this one was setting up even better. We were building something special on defense. We might still be, time will tell.

And then there was UT when we had big points on the board.............

Pruitt caused Sony to fumble the kickoff right before the half. Why was Sony out there when he is now the first tailback. Changed the whole game imo.

Well, Bama is struggling recruiting at this time. Toward the middle of the league (5th). UGA is rated ahead of them so maybe Saban actually misses having Smart in his corner backing him up. Or maybe Pruitt is not as good as Smart was convincing Bama recruits. Actually the biggest story in CFB recruiting continues to be Ole Miss. They are getting major, big time players from all over the country, some who never make a visit. They have 2 of the top 5 players in USA committed. This is a school that has not won the SEC in 52 years!!!!! And the only school in the west who was in the league when the Championship game began who has never been in the SECCG. Frankly it appears they have actually moved past AU as the biggest payer in the land. Any other rationale would be foolish at this point.

Bama has a bit of a track record under Saban.
Bama's class was rated lower than usual before Kirby left and UGA was having their best recruiting class under Right before the coaching change.
We'll find out soon enough how both teams close this class.

You'd have to ask one of the offensive coaches. You'd have to ask a def coach why they couldn't stop UT after all that.

It's still a mystery why the Fla game went like it did with Bauta. THAT one was more perplexing. Bama, UT, typical of us at times.

Pruitt got the project jump-started. McGarity had spoken in vague terms about forming a committee to study the feasibility of an IPF, then another committee to manage finance since He took the AD job. It took shape very quickly once they cut through the heel dragging that has defined The Athletic Department for so long.

I get not spending like We print Our own money, but when something is clearly going to happen, get it done sooner rather than later.

No, not a woman, but I am wearing khaki's.

Sorry about my post. I was still fretting whether UGA had remembered to include indoor plumbing in the new IPF:cool:

Wise ass..but dumb post.
Many if not most IPFs aren't air conditioned, but the best are. Find where it's made clear whether Ours will have HVAC. We're paying over 30 million, forgive Me if I want to know before construction goes too far, I well recall our 20 yard joke, Our leaders have been known to squeeze a nickel unwisely. The AD Department couldn't give Me an answer, so good luck.

The new, short IPF, at a cost of 15 million, the one Adams/Damon/Richt built, opened 6 mos after ADGM got the job. There is no way in H a new one was going to be built as soon as he got here. And especially with Adams still at the helm. Adams exited June 30, 2014 (thank God). Moorhead took over July 1, 2014. It was monitored that year how many days they had to use the short field during practice during the season. FOUR. In spite of that, with the new Prez behind him, FEB 2015 at board meeting, ADGM asked for $400,000 for studies, architect, etc. At least this time, ADGM wanted studies of several places, not just out Milledge. THAT had been a sticking point during the previous regime of Adams/Damon/Richt. Richt wanted on campus,t he other 2 said no. Sept 2014 at the next board meeting, the $$ was approved. That's how it went down.

And I don't care how much crying, throwing tandrums, etc. Pruitt did about it, it would have never happened under Adams. And Mc/Moorhead were dang lucky the board would entertain the idea again of that much $$ in 3 yrs of the previous, brand new IPF opening. You give Pruitt way too much credit.

Good night to ya.

You could be right We'll never know for sure if Adams could have been persuaded.
It's of note Richt wouldn't give up 1 of His onsite practice fields to build a full size IPF at the time planning was being done before the mini joke was constructed. If He'd agreed to it then, We might have built it full size back then.
