Glad that they announced it today and I enjoyed reading their profiles. I wonder who the last Charlton County Indian was that we signed for baseball... I hear they've put out some ok football players from down there. Here are some thoughts on the class.

-I count 5 position players and 7 pitchers. I thought that we may sign more position players than that... We have 5 seniors that we know will be leaving after 2015... The total number of departures may reach 11 depending on what happens with the draft eligible third year guys... We have two 4th year juniors as well that I did not include in that list. So, I wouldn't be surprised to see us add a few more in the spring. I do not envy the task of roster management that faces college baseball coaches.

-Of the 5 position players that we signed, 4 are left hand hitting. I imagine that we'll be a very left hand heavy in our lineup in 2016 as you consider that Skyler Weber will be a third year guy then and Keegan McGovern and Henry Rowling will be 2nd year players.

-On that note, I figure that Stricklin must really like left hand hitting 1st baseman. He inherited Walsh and Nichols from Perno, but brought back Morgan Bunting. Both the 1st baseman that we signed in this class are lefty throwing and hitting.

-Way too early to have an idea for how the draft will play out for some of these guys. I agree that there doesn't appear to be a Buxton in this class. I'd imagine that Dakota Chalmers, Adam Goodman, Kevin Smith, and Chad Smith are, at this very early stage, the guys that we'd need to watch the closest. Shane Tucker looks very talented as well, but you know how these pro guys are with 6'0 righties...

-I wonder how many kids have gone through The Marist School named Patrick Sullivan....

-Adam Sasser appears to be built like the last Greenbriar Wolfpack 1B that we signed, though Sasser obviously hits from the other side of the plate. On that note, it appears that we targeted some bigger, more physical hitters in this class as opposed to last.

-I didn't read the pitcher's bios nearly as closely as I read the hitters. I just have so much faith and belief in Fred Corral that I know that we'll be fine on the mound as long as he's here. That said, it looks like we signed some very high ceiling types. Read Stricklin's comments on Addison Albright. Put that guy with a coach like Corral and see where he is 12 months into it...

-When you start looking at the roster now.... you consider that Robert Tyler will be a junior in 2016 with an excellent chance to be a top 10 pick.... you'll have Conor Jones as a junior.... You'll have Drew Moody, who I still think has a tremendous upside as a junior.... You'll have Avidano, Tucker, and Hamilton with a year under their belts as sophomores... Then you add in some of these freshman arms. Where I'm going with this is that we're going to lose a number of pitchers off of the '15 team. You'll most likely part ways with Lawlor, Sosebee, Gonzalez, and McLaughlin out of the junior class and then you'll obviously lose some seniors too. Even with all those losses that we'll have after this upcoming season, we should be VERY strong on the mound in 2016.

-Finally, for whatever reason early in the Perno tenure, it just seemed like we didn't have too many South Georgia guys on the roster... Kyle Keen was about it for awhile. You had Miles Starr and Christian Glisson, but think those were mainly projected to be more role player types, though they did a good job when they got their chance. I guess that started to change with the 2010 freshmen with they signed Chance Veazey and Brett DeLoach... Buxton was from Appling County obviously and they brought in Palmer Betts and Daniel Nichols for the '13 team and added Jess Posey as a walkon. We then signed Robert Tyler and Keegan McGovern in back to back classes and added Josh Day last year as well. This year we signed LJ Talley from down there too. They play some good baseball down in South Georgia... it's not just limited to the Atlanta suburbs... and I thought that we must have been neglecting that part of the state for awhile. Glad to see that we're bringing in some players from below the gnat line and I hope that continues.
