JJ is not playing up to his abilities. His shooting has suffered in part, imo, for two reasons. The first is that teams focus on him and we have not found enough perimeter help to off-set that tactic. But, he should play the 2 spot more, which will help that factor. Plus it should give Turtle more minutes, which, imo, is a good thing. But, I believe the main thing that is hurting JJ's shooting and overall play is the feeling he has that he has to do so many things to help this team and he is pressing. And much of the reason for that is when he looks around and sees lineups on the floor that don't offer any chance of giving him the support he needs to relax and let the game come to him. That is on Fox.
I have no problem at all with the play of JP, except he is shooting to much. But, that also is a result of Fox not playing, and or, giving the green light to other guys who can score easier. Harris should definitely be shooting 4-5 more times per game. We also need to get the ball to DO much more on the block. Along with Turtle giving us more time and offense that will go a long way to filling out our offensive needs. I also believe Crump should be playing the 2 spot more. He is a guy who can break down defenses, score or dish.
Our mtm defense has come a long way in the past 3 games or so, although we gave up way too many easy shots at the hoop to Tech. Fox should not abandon the zone and try to find a good mix.
If Fox will eliminate playing guys together who absolutely have no reason to ever be on the court together we will see our ability to expand leads go way up. His substitutions have improved slightly, but now that every game in conference will be a tight one, even two minutes of the wrong combos will decide games.
He needs to use KPG, Toe and Diatta as three inter-changeable guys. Whichever one is playing the best any particular game needs the most time.
These things should all be self-evident to a good coach. We are about to find out how far CMF has come.
