What’s the skinny on this guy?

Am liking what am seeing in the short recent timeframe.

He is a centrist democrat. His state is republican but he has been able to win re election based on moderate views. He is the critical vote in the senate. The Biden Administration just put his wife a influential board that can direct significant money to her organization/cause. It looks like influence peddling. If the democrats need the vote, joe will go party line. If they have enough votes without him, he will vote”true” to his “centrist” ideology. Basically, he isn’t really principled in anything but joes family benefit including his re-election. Seen enough of him

the only dim with half a brain
yes, Joe is not your typical dim

West Virginia

Remember when Robert Byrd basically tried to move the capitol to WV one department at a time?
Robert Byrd.. Robert Byrd? oh yes, wasn't he the 50+ year Democratic Senator from West Virginia,, who STOOD on the Senate floor for 14 hours filibustering the vote on Kennedy's Civil Rights Bill,,, who was Joe Biden's mentor,, and was an Exalted Cyclops of the Ku Klux Klan? is that the Robert Byrd we are talking about?

Yep that's your boy but he repented and was forgiven.

He ran the Appropriations Committee and was known as the King of Pork.

"Pork, to the critic, is service to the people who enjoy some of the good things in life, and I've been happy to bring to West Virginia the projects to which they refer. I have no apology for it," he said.

VA nailed it. Bottom line is that he and Sinema will help prevent the VERY damaging legislation from passing through, but they are still OK with a lot of bullshit.

If either of them needs to be the deciding vote on something, we're screwed.

Arizona is changing so Sinema has political reasons to actually be a Dem at least In name. But Manchin is in a solidly GOP state. If he actually shared basic conservative beliefs it would be much easier for him to just switch parties. Guaranteed re-election for life, and if he switched right now he would put the GOP in the majority and could pick his committee chairmanship instead of this game of playing both sides for influence. And the political wind would favor the GOP keeping the Senate in the midterm.

Yet he doesn't switch, his wife took a plum job offered by Biden, and he already rolled over on the COVID bill. The signs of him caving on the filibuster and then every other meaningful issue being settled after that are there IMO. And it is hard to overstate the damage that will happen if or when he does this. Most claims of "America will never be the same again" are overblown but what the Woke Dems want to force down our throats with the narrowest of margins is pretty colossal.
