I know its wrong to speak ill of the recently departed, so I'll just say note that it seems Democrats have had more good thing to say about McCain than Republicans, going back to at least the last Bush administration.

In all seriousness, I respect the hell out of his service and I salute him. But I disagree with many of his political positions.

DF, you’re a great guy and I like you. Obviously, a lot of people have really strong feelings about that, including me. I wish you would reconsider. And I think McCain became anti-american in later life. There certainly are worse people out there.

Bench is one of my favorite people, so I’ll leave this alone. I think it’s great, really great, that you’ve been married for 38 years. I have only been married once, for 20 years, but we had a 12 year courtship. I like the concept of mating for life, like geese. It’s stabilizing, sort of a cultural bedrock. I’m very happy that way, although sometimes I’d like to strangle her, grill a couple hotdogs and watch a ballgame.
Trust me, I totally outkicked my coverage, so being married for that long is a total no-brainer.

John McCain was a POW, squealed, signed a letter for the NVA and according to men who were there, received special benefits. I am not criticizing McCain for any of it. I don't know that I would not have broken under the circumstances. No man does. But it is hard for me to bestow the title of War Hero to him.
I lost the best friend I ever had because we were getting raked and he was not allowed to go out with us originally because he was on restricted duty for illness and only had 9 days to do. But he jumped on a medevac skid and went into a hot LZ to try to help. You figure out who's a War Hero.
I won't get into his political career since it was so obviously a prolonged exercise in self promotion...the only guy I've ever seen jump in front of more cameras than Al Sharpton.

The Republicans have a nasty habit of putting up for the Presidency the person "Whose Turn" it is. Its was McCains' turn in 2008, Romneys turn in 2012, and íJeb!'s turn in 2016...until Trump messed up their plans.

Politically, however, I can state that it was McCain's carefully crafted brand as a politician to loudly and publicly break away from "his" party at crucial moments and give the Democrats what they couldn't achieve by themselves. If there was a bus, and it was going to hit either a Democrat or a Republican , and it was up to McCain to save one or the other, lets just say I wouldn't feel to good if I were the Republican, especially if the Network News had a camera documenting the whole thing.

Roe Vs. Wade is one of the most damning things this nation is being judged for in God's eyes. How many millions of innocent children have been MURDERED by this decision?? Dems love to say good things about rival politicians that they beat (Obama beat McCain in the '08 Presidential race), and don't forget that McCain cast THE deciding vote in the Senate that prevented the repeal of Obamacare, Obama's singular legislative achievement in his 8 years in office. On the other hand, when the rival party is objecting to what you are doing, you are probably doing something right!!

The path to salvation is judged on how a person lives his/her own life.
Many Christians, including me, believe our Jewish friends are in the hands of God and will come to Christ at the proper time. Many also believe the conversion is laid out in the New Testament (Romans 11), although some scholars dispute that, and it will occur in the end of this age. Many good Christians leave these questions in God's hands.
Also, you better hope you're right, and Christians are wrong, about the path to salvation.
Jesus died for the Jewish people as well, he was not exclusive to any race or creed. THe Jewish people will have the veil lifted before the end times so they can accept Jesus as their savior.

The one thing that has stood out to me is the fact that McCain could not let go of his hatred of Trump. The mark of a good, humble man is the ability to forgive. Granted Trump said some pretty nasty things about him that probably hit him to his core, but you would think that a dying man would want to leave this world with no regrets or enemies. Just makes me wonder about him moral make up.
Do you have the same musings about Trumps moral makeup? Seeing that he belittled a POW and a dying man in his last days?
