I don't understand the cushion. We were 5-7 off even when they were on 4 yard line and Smael saved us from an easy slant for a TD. There's no safety spinning down to take any inside throw away, either.

Cushion to the field? Ok. 7-8 on the boundary, though?

I'm confused.
