a few things from the heart. Four years ago in September, the night before the Boise State game, I made a post about what I would say to the team. It's hard to believe how long ago that seems. I always wondered how certain members of my family knew so much moee about the team than I did. It bothered me. At Christmas and Thanksgiving and family get-togethers they would talk about recruits and who got hurt at practice. "How do they know this stuff?!" Finally they told me: it was UGASports. The Dawgvent. They were "lurkers" and told me to be careful what I posted. Sound advice indeed! Nevertheless, on that September night, I dove in and never looked back.
It's been said here before, but in a weird way this feels like a family. I posted my testimonial video here before I posted it to Facebook. Since that time a few people have reached out to me to tell me how I inspire them and that they sat down and watched it with their children. What an honor that is, that the "G" can bring us all together in such powerful ways.
I'll tell a quick story...a few years ago, I went to hear a person I greatly respect share his testimony at Prince Avenue Baptist Church. After the service there was a long line to see him. I waited and waited. When my grandmother and I reached the front of the line, she told him my story which I won't bore you with in full. This is a college sports board. She told him the basics: VERY prematurely born, told my young mother I wouldn't make it, diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age two. The man said, in his usual quiet manner, "Wow, that's amazing. Praise the Lord. It was great to meet you. You're a great kid. You know that?" He rubbed my head. "Thank yall for coming." I started to walk away.
"Young man!" I turned. "Do you mind if I pray for you? What's your name? (To the line of people) Can yall hang on one second?"
The man was Mark Richt. I know, I know. Another great Richt story. We want him to win. I do too. I just share that to say that there's great people around us everywhere.
Earlier last month my membership here ran out. As a college student about to enter big boy world, I barely have enough money for ramen noodles and toilet paper. Someone on this board who knows who they are reached out and compensated my membership. Thank you again for that.
This is not meant to be a "rah rah, look-at-me, attention craving post. This is me saying thank you, honestly. Down to my core, thank you. An opportunity has possibly come up concerning what, for me, would be a dream job. Just waiting to hear back from the right people in due time. I'm going to discontinue posting here to be able to chase this dream with everything I have, as well as wrap up my education.
Dawgvent, it's been a special four years. There are no other fans I'd rather navigate all the highs and lows with. Many of you have young children. Some have teenagers. If you don't pay attention to anything else I type, please PLEASE tell them to relentlessly pursue their dreams. Pay no attention to what anyone says, because no one knows them like they do. For me, my dream was to walk by myself. They told me I'd never step away from that walker. I did. Yall take care Dawgs! Let's pull out a win on Saturday. I love this team, and this school.
One other thing: be thankful for the staff you have here. Standup dudes. Top-notch guys. We're spoiled.
God Bless you guys!
