I had a good conversation with Kam Mikell after Ware County defeated Statesboro tonight. Mikell was playing quarterback and has been for the past few weeks because his team’s starter is injured. He was also starting at safety, where he had an interception and several tackles tonight. He was playing wide receiver and running back before his teammate got hurt.
Mikell told me right off the bat that he intends to commit on Thanksgiving. While Mikell was wearing a Florida towel pregame, the Gators weren’t in his final list of schools he mentioned to me postgame. Those programs were Georgia, Colorado, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Texas A&M. We also reported that Mikell wants to play offense in college and he confirmed that with me tonight.
Mikell said schools are mainly recruiting him as a wide receiver. We’ve also reported that UGA was originally recruiting him as a defensive back, but then changed its pitch for him to play offense.
Mikell told me tonight that it’s “up in the air” what position he would play if he signs with Georgia. He’s confident if he were to end up with the Bulldogs, the staff would put him in the right place. They’ll talk about that with him next week. He will be in Athens for the Missouri game.
Mikell said he’s in constant contact with Fran Brown. He also talked to Bryan McClendon today as well. So, it’s safe to say the staff is recruiting him hard and will to the very end. He doesn’t intend to be an early-enrollee, though.
More to come.
