Opening Tip - A Brief Look At Sunday’s Game

» Georgia and Georgia Tech are set to meet in a key early-season matchup Sunday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.

» The Lady Bulldogs own a 34-5 lead in the all-time series against Georgia Tech. Georgia, which owns a perfect 15-0 record against the Yellow Jackets in Athens, has won five of the last six meetings between the two programs.

» Georgia is led by the veteran frontcourt tandem of Mackenzie Engram and Caliya Robinson. Engram leads the team with 12.6 points per game and has scored in double figures in eight of nine contests to begin her senior season. Robinson is second on the team in scoring (12.2 ppg) and ties Engram for the team lead in rebounding with 6.9 boards per game.

» The Lady Bulldogs enter Sunday’s contest ranked second in the SEC in assists (17.4 per game) and in the top half of the league in assist/turnover ratio and turnover margin. Newcomer Taja Cole is a big reason for Georgia’s backcourt improvement. The redshirt-sophomore leads the conference in assists (5.6 per game) and is fourth in assist/turnover ratio (50 assists, 20 turnovers). Cole has also improved her scoring this season and has set a new career high of 15 points in road wins at BYU and at North Carolina A&T.

» Robinson has received early season recognition. The preseason All-SEC selection was named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy National Player of the Year watch list as well as the Katrina McClain Award watch list for the top power forward in the country. Robinson ranks among the SEC’s top-10 returners in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.

Last Time Out

» Redshirt-sophomore guard Taja Cole tied a career high with 15 points, veteran forwards Caliya Robinson and Mackenzie Engram each scored in double figures and the Georgia Lady Bulldogs basketball team left the Corbett Center with a 73-63 win Thursday evening.

In addition to three players in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs, North Carolina native Maya Caldwell had an impressive homecoming as she finished with eight points, including six in the fourth quarter.

“I told our players in the locker room that I was proud of the way we just gutted it out,” head coach Joni Taylor said. “During the last five minutes of the game, every player on the court for us made a play. That’s what it takes against a team like North Carolina A&T. This was a great test for us coming off a long break for finals, and I am pleased with how we responded.”

Free-Throw Numbers Improve Against NC A&T

» Georgia struggled from the free-throw line in its first eight games, hitting just 61.7 percent of its shots. Those numbers improved quite a bit during Thursday’s win at North Carolina A&T, when the Lady Bulldogs knocked in 21-of-26 (80.8 percent) from the charity stripe. Prior to Thursday’s game, Georgia had five games of shooting less than 60 percent from the free-throw line.

7-0 Start Best In Joni Taylor Era

» The Lady Bulldogs, which currently sit at 8-1 this season, jumped out to a 7-0 record to begin the year, marking the best start in the Joni Taylor era. In Taylor’s first season, her team started 12-1 in non-conference play en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance and 21-10 final record. So far this year, Georgia has recorded three wins against teams that won 20 or more games a season ago with road victories at Virginia, Mercer and BYU.

Georgia Unselfish With the Ball, Among League Leaders in Assists, Blocks and Steals

» Head coach Joni Taylor’s squad ranks near the top of the SEC in assists (2nd), blocks (2nd) and steals (6th) this season. Georgia’s guards, aided by the emergence of newcomers Taja Cole, Gabby Connally, Que Morrison and Maya Caldwell, average17.4 assists per game, which is the second-best average in the league. Cole has been the catalyst for the Lady Bulldogs. She leads the conference in assists and is fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio with 50 assists and 20 turnovers this season.

It Starts With Defense Under Taylor

» Georgia prides itself on defense and that has paid off over the last few games. The Lady Bulldogs have held twoopponents (BYU and Furman) to their season lows in scoring and field goal percentage. BYU shot a season-low 35.1 percent from the field, while Furman hit just 27.3 percent of its shots. In all, the Lady Bulldogs are 17-0 under Coach Taylor when holding an opponent to 50 points or less.

Robinson Named to Naismith, Katrina McClain Award Watch Lists

» Lady Bulldog junior forward Caliya Robinson has received national attention for her efforts on the court. Among the SEC’s returning leaders in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, Robinson was named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy National Player of the Year Watch List, joining 50 of the top players from around the country. Before the season started, she was tabbed a Katrina McClain Award Watch List candidate, placing Robinson’s name among the top 20 power forwards from across the country.

A Top-10 Shot Blocker

» Robinson has moved into the top-10 of the Lady Bulldogs’ career blocked shots leaders. In just 66 games, Robinson has 145 blocks (2.2 per game), which ranks eighth-best in Lady Bulldog history. Perhaps even more impressive is that Robinson has done this in just 66 career games. It took Tasha Humphrey (who is currently in10th place with 119) 126 games, while Anne-Marie Armstrong (in ninth place) recorded 122 blocks in 133 contests.

Morrison’s Debut Among Best For Georgia Freshmen

» Que Morrison’s 19-point effort in the season-opener against Wofford puts her name among a prestigious group of Lady Bulldog freshmen. Morrison’s total is the most for a Georgia rookie in a season-opening game since Tasha Humphrey scored 25 versus Furman at the beginning of the 2004-05 season.

Georgia’s Clark Already A College Graduate

» A three-time selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Haley Clark graduated in just three years and received her diploma from UGA during graduation ceremonies this past May. Clark received her bachelor’s degree in business and finance and is pursuing a master’s in financial planning. One of her career goals is to work in corporate finance and help other athletes with financial planning.

A native of Orlando, Florida, Clark was Georgia’s starting point guard in each of the team’s 31 games last season. She ranked in the top-5 in the Southeastern Conference in assists per game during league play, averaging 4.7 per contest, with 122 total for the season. On a roster that featured just eight scholarship players, Clark played close to 33 minutes per game after starting just four contests in her previous two seasons combined.
