You are going to tell me a 3-point postseason loss, at a neutral site, to Alabama, should drop Georgia from No. 1 to 5 or 6?
I see a lot of "we did this to ourselves" posts but I have an issue with that.
In the last week, UGA finally picked up a loss. Now they are on par with multiple other teams with one loss.
"Well, Georgia knew they had to win to get in."
To me, that feels like moving the goalposts.
Why didn't that criteria apply to Texas when it faced Oklahoma?
Why didn't that criteria apply to Alabama when it faced Texas?
Apparently, it did apply to Ohio State.
"But they (Texas &Bama) went on to win their conferences."
True, but that is the point. They got a second chance. Georgia lost in the postseason.
UGA, Texas, Alabama and Ohio State all have one loss. They should all be looked at objectively.
I'd favor all of them over FSU. And Washington. But the Huskies are in so that leaves two spots.
Four teams, two conference champions. That favors Bama and Texas.
Four teams, three with in-season losses. That favors UGA.
Four teams, three of which only lost by single digits. Works against Bama.
Four teams, two of which lost at neutral sites, one lost at home and one on the road. Works against Bama. Favors OSU.
I don't know the answer. It's late and I'm probably not thinking clearly.
I just know two things. 1) This is Auburn's fault for only rushing two. 2) If you tell me UGA is the 5th or 6th best team in the nation after a 3-point postseason loss, I'm going to think you are a damned idiot.
