a mid-major guy AND a proven Power 5 retread. I see lots of good candidates out there and at this point at the end of the day i will be pleased with anything other than what we have had to endure the past 9 seasons. But if i were making the call, Crean is my guy, and here’s why- not only does his resume speak for itself, Final four and sweet 16 appearances at MULTIPLE schools, he has coached at what is one of the toughest places in the country when it comes to unrealistic and crazy fan expectations. Lots of IU folks still expecting Bobby knight and while i certainly dont claim to know all the specifics surrounding his time in Bloomington, he has had to deal with many things a mid major coach has never had to deal with. Yes, coaching is still coaching at the end of the day but i will take the guy who has “been there, done that”, brings national recognition into every living room of Elite recruits and has experience navigating the landscape of a power 5 basketball program. You want to shine Greg McGarity? Go get Crean and get him on Campus. He brings instant credibility and attention. But if history repeats itself, we will more than likely go out and take a chance on an unproven upcoming Mid major guy, who knows, maybe this time it will actually work.
