win over South Carolina and much more.
On the Vanderbilt game as opposed to the South Carolina game...
“I enjoyed both.”
On his performance against South Carolina...
“We threw the ball a little more that game. I’m guessing the coaches just had something different in mind than we did the previous week.”
On what he said to Lambert after the performance...
“Congratulations, because he broke the record. I congratulated him on that.”
On savoring the moment...
“I enjoy all moments out there with this being my last season. I know how it feels to not be able to play the game for awhile.”
On the feeling of accomplishment in beating SC...
“It feels well. Moving on in the future, that’s something that I can say I accomplished. I went out with a win against South Carolina.”
On the preparation...
“I think that throughout practice, we did extremely well as far as the quarterbacks and the receivers. We tried to make sure we took advantage of any opportunity that would arise during the game.”
On how the receivers prepared...
“I think as a unit, we did well. Obviously, when you go back and critique everything, we make mistakes, and there are other areas we can definitely improve on. Overall, for the most part, I think we were where we needed to be at certain times in the game.”
On McClendon versus Ball...
“It’s just two different styles from two different generations. I’m not really inclined to say who’s better or who’s not, as a coach, but I think, as far as the styles go, you have a younger coach and a more mature coach. That alone kind of makes a difference.”
On freshmen playing more...
“Coach Ball was here my freshman year, and I played as a freshman. Chris Conley was a freshman and played. I’m not sure how accurate that is. I think the freshmen we have now came into a situation where there weren’t that many older receivers ready to play at the level expected from the coach. I think that’s why you see a lot more younger guys out there.”
On how it benefits recruiting to see younger guys play...
“They definitely should sell that, because I think Georgia does a great job of not showing favor in the realm of senior versus freshman. Whoever is the best guy gets the job.”
On blending youth and experience...
“I think you need both to be successful. I don’t recruit, so I can’t tell you how talented a guy is before he gets here, because college is different than high school. Obviously, they see something in the players that I don’t see because I don’t look that deep into it.”
On watching the SEC this past weekend...
“I saw them. I watched LSU/Auburn and Ole Miss/Alabama. I think those are the two that stood out to me the most, because they were the two most hyped up games for the SEC this week. There were other games I watched, but those are the most memorable ones.”
On what those games told him...
“I think it’s what everyone already perceives out the SEC -- everyone is phenomenal. You never know what’s going to happen. You can predict the teams that might or might not win, but you can’t predict how they’re going to win. I think that’s the best thing about the SEC from week to week. Everything is unpredictable in how it’s going to reveal itself.”
On not looking ahead...
“The way I stay focused is that this is another opportunity to go out and get better as a player, and we better win the game or the Alabama game won’t be as exciting. Me, personally, I focus on trying to get better regardless of who we play. As a team, you want to win.”
On prepping for the game Saturday...
“I wouldn’t say that, because it sounds like I’m just out there trying stuff against an opponent in a game. That doesn’t take place. I think practice is the time to fine tune things. Game day is game day, regardless of who you play.”
