Middle Ga question...

I am a 40ish physician, native of NW Ga currently looking to relocate for professional reasons. Although I'd love to get back to north Ga, there are a handful of opportunities available sooner than later in middle Ga, specifically the Macon / WR / Perry area. There are always opportunities around Atlanta but my wife much prefers a small to mid size city over a major metro area. For anyone who lives or has lived in and / or around that area, what's it like these days? I haven't spent any significant time in that part of Ga since I was a kid. I realize every town and city has its good and bad elements, but are middle Ga and the specific cities I mentioned good places for a family to live these days? I have 1 7 year old son, and obviously schools are an important consideration. I like the proximity to Atlanta and Athens, as well as my family in Rome. For reference we live in the Pensacola area right now... love the area and would stay if not for a less than ideal practice.

I appreciate any info anyone can share!

PS- Add Albany further down south to the list of places where an opportunity exists and that I'd like folks' opinions on.

Albany is sort of rual spread out have you tried Columbus ga. It's a very nice town only a two hour drive to Atlanta.

I wouldn't go so far to describe Albany as a "nice town"..

Tifton or Cordele would be great spots to look IMO

Tift Area is a private school near tifton, and Cordele has Crisp academy. Cordele you are right near lake blackshear which is a decent sized lake

I agree on Albany. Know a bunch of people that have deep roots down there and they don't think much of it.

WR and Perry are good places and growing, would live in perry if I worked in either place. If in Macon live in Forsyth and send you kids to Mary Persons or private school in Macon(FPD). Dublin is also a good and growing community. Good luck

Milledgeville/Eatonton area and you can get some of that Lake Oconee and Sinclair money.

I gew up just south of Warner Robins and wouldn't live in Macon on a bet. WR, Perry, plenty of land in south Houston Co are probably ok. Unfortunately, my knowledge of the area is dead even though my Mom still lives there.
My comments on Macon are timeless, though.
