Where as we have brought 7 fives and a whopping 56 four stars. So what is the difference? Simply this MSU has kept their players in the program, out of trouble for the most part and working to develop. 16 of their 22 starters are fourth and fifth year players with four 1st and 2nd team AA's or All B1G 1st team on offense. 3 of them OL's! And two of the same on the DL! 5 of the 9 linemen starters are AA/All B1G. While a large number of the big time recruits who came from Athens have scattered to the wind. Anyway you want to slice it that is an indictment of you know who.

Frankly I'm not so sure MSU doesn't beat Bama since they are far more mature (Bama has had a number of 3 and outs) and are certainly more motivated to prepare. UA has had the coaching distractions with some leaving (KS and at least 3 others with job offers to go with him) and the circus of the Heisman and other awards things involving some of their players like Henry, Kelly and Ragland. Either a solid MSU victory or a last minute win for either side. Take the points and State. And there is more than one way to skin the cat.

Mark Dantonio does more with less than any coach in the Power 5. His staff develops players. Just look at the QBs alone. Not a 5 star among them but a couple are in the NFL with another working on getting there.

Kinda like watching Boise State dismantle us in the Georgia Dome with a bunch of white 2 and 3 star guys. Sooner or later the establishment has to admit its coaching.

All coaching and player development. And agree that MSU will give Bama all they want.

No question Dantonio is a great HC. I expect if his agent had called Our AD He would be Our HC right now.
It's not a given the magic would transfer though. Look at Chris Petersen at Washington, I thought He'd step right in and be a force, but so far it hasn't happened.

While competition would be a step up on lower and maybe middle ends, the top wouldn't be so daunting compared to moving from Mountain West to Pac 12. True though, you never know, but less of a culture shock competition and recruiting wise.

It's hard to compare MSU's "stars" or lack thereof playing in the Big 10 week-in, week-out, vs. any SEC school, the number of "stars" the SEC school recruit, and having them go at it every week.

Dantonio has a past history of success however. He is a solid, brick by brick type who does it from the ground up. From just what I know of him he was part and parcel of yeah, Saban's staff at Michigan St before Saban left for LSU. Then he had a winner at Cinncinati before taking the MSU job. So there is very little magic to be transferred. He is a strong believer and old school practitioner of (A) hard work and (B) blocking and tackling plus (C) toughness. And anymore with all these x and o geniuses playing BB on grass that cuts like a knife if a school has patience and the right guy who won't back off and won't back down. Some of the new staff on the offensive side here are of that bent. Recruit guys who will work and who have the frames and teach them all the fundamentals on the OL (the Arky guy) and keep them in school. MSU's all stars are mostly linemen. 5 of the 9 starters are all conf/AA types and 4/5 year guys. They are a souped up Arkansas. Arky is making it tough on bigger name, big recruit teams late in the year like LSU/OleMiss this year using that approach.
