I grew up in Fayette county and now live in Peachtree city. PTC is a bubble. It's VERY nice and it's very safe. Houses are expensive. It's the definition of suburbs. A lot of retired yanks here, but overall very friendly. A golfer's paradise. Tons on parks. Gold cart trails everywhere. All the schools are good. McIntosh perennially has the highest SAT scores in the state. Star's Mill is a great school as well. Fayette County has a really good school system, one of the best in the state. I'm not a proponent of govt schools, but if I had to send my kid to one down here, Star's Mill, McIntosh, Whitewater, and Sandy Creek would be it. Can't go wrong with either of them, imo.
The people here are a bit prudish for my taste, but I know forbes rated PTC one of the top five places in America to raise a family a few yrs ago. There are some good churches around as well. The whole area is nice and well kept. Not just PTC, but Tyrone and Brooks as well if you like more seclusion. Hell, Fayetteville isn't bad either as long as you live south of the square(that's where I grew up). Senoia/Newnan/Sharpsburg, which are all in Coweta County, are the best places down here, imo. But PTC is the most affluent area on the southside by far. The drive to griffin from fayetteville, brooks, tyrone, ptc, senoia, newnan, and sharpsburg, is about the same. I mean, there's not a lot of difference no matter which one of these places you live. Nothing substantial anyways.
Whatever you do, don't live in Griffin. It is the armpit of Georgia. It's a mix of ghetto and white trash, which makes it almost unbearable.
If you want to get out in the sticks and be close to griffin for work, Pike Co is the place to go. A lot of people from Fayette County are migrating to Pike. It's a beautiful county, especially if you like it wide open. I hear the schools are really good as well.
