There's passion, and there's out of control anger issues, Will has the later IMO.
Kirby feels he owes WM for getting Him his first coaching job at Valdosta St, plus they are very good friends. All of those factors seem to be leading Smart to offer WM the DC position at UGA if Kirby is hired as expected.
Even if you dismiss the lack of control, His record is not good either as a HC or DC going back to his tenure at Texas.
I would hate to see Muschamp struggle, forcing Kirby into damage control before he even gets his feet planted as a HC.

I think the assumption is that Muschamp will still be a DC by the time we have our coach announced (and not move on to be a head coach somewhere). Muschamp always seemed like Mr. Furious to me on the sidelines, especially as the Fl. head coach. But, the FL defense in place this season is his product and they seem pretty good to me.

ADGM will not allow Kirby to bring Muschamp, bank on that. And that might be the reason we don't get Kirby. Muschamp wants out of Auburn because he hates Garner.

Kirby is not going to turn down the UGA job unless he's a delusional idiot.

If He's told he can't have Muschamp, which seems unlikely to Me, maybe The AD powers will let Him keep Pruitt, which would be my top choice by a mile. Kirby with Pruitt's D-staff and Western Kentucky's Tyson Helton at OC, that would be something to get excited about.

didn't say Kirby would turn it down. Just said Muschamp won't be coming with him

Muschamp wont be here unless that breaks the deal.

ONE MAJOR DIFFERENCE....WM has a great history of coaching defenses in college and the SEC...Schotty had a mediocre (being kind) NFL track record

He may not come, but I don't think he would stop WM from coming either. Too much for ADGM riding on this to start dictating new coaching hires that don't directly report to him.

I don't think you guys have anything to worry about. We have a standing offer to Kirby in case he is not satisfied with the UGA offer. But, I'll be shocked if he turns you down. Assuming he accepts your offer, we will be hiring Muschamp. I'm not thrilled with that hire. Frankly, only because I want a Head Coach with successful experience, I would not be thrilled with Kirby either. But, I'm not the AD. Smart vs Muschamp, early in the 2016 season at Williams-Brice. If nothing else, it will make for interesting stories and spice up the series. Good luck in your negotiations with KS. But, again, I doubt you have anything to worry about.

I don't get why Muschamp is held in such high regard. When is the last time He had a top defense as a DC ? He had bad results at Texas and terrible results this season.

Thanks, who knows the atmosphere in Columbia might be what Will needs.

The smart move for McGarity would be to forgive Pruitt and invite Him back.
This is business and acting like a petty wuss at the expense of the program isn't what he's paid to do.

Under WM at Texas: #1 in Big 12 against the run; #1 Scoring Defense in Big 12, For two years held every big 12 team they faced under their scoring average, Ranked second nationally in sacks per game (4 per,)
At LSU, Lead nation in scoring and total defense in 2003, lead entire sec in every defensive category
At Miami, not great against total points (15th at 19.8) but second in NFL in sacks
At Auburn, 7th in nation in scoring defense, top 10 in passing D, Top 10 in total D, lead SEC in scoring D

Not a bad track record, his D was great at UF, but he was out of his element and under water when it came to be HC and never hired an OC that could help him actually get the offense and turnovers under control the last 2 seasons.

Everyone is worried about Muschamp being our DC but the truth is he will probably be a head coach somewhere so it won't be an issue. As for me, Kirby is a defensive guy so I trust him to put whomever he thinks is the best fit into that roll. If it is Muschamp then so be it. Kirby is the one who will be judged based on his defense no matter who he puts in place.

I don't want to ''judge'' Kirby in any negative sense.
I may well be wrong about Will anyway, He might be the right man, but it does look like SC is seriously considering him for their open HC position.
