There was a very small 2.3 earthquake last night with the epicenter underneath Lake Lanier on the south side of the lake. Typically a quake that small isn't felt but it was so relatively close to the surface so people in the immediate area felt it for 2-3 seconds and heard a loud "explosion" type sound. My brother lives off Hwy 20 in Cumming, and was one of the few that did experience his house shaking and the sound.
Check out this video, pretty wild.
Side note: Last night there was no confirmation of it being an earthquake so everyone was wondering what it was. My search of "Cumming Explosion", in hindsight unsurprisingly, did not provide any help haha.
