ND: Looking like the whole Missouri situation

I wonder why all the Jewish students didn't cry intolerance, go on a hunger strike, demand sensitivity training, hiring practice reform, and that two people give up their job for not doing anything wrong.

Well, it has come out that the president never hit the hunger strike guy with his car. (there is video out there disproving what Butler claimed) There are several reports out there that are stating a lot of this was trumped up. Butler even lied about the KKK being on campus and him being a liason with the National Guard. Even Russilo and Kannell were talking about how they changed their mind on things today. After reading what was demanded and the actual proof that is out there, they both think what happened was out of line. It didn't change anything, but instead has made everything worse.

What was reported factually there has no place anywhere, but what this hunger strike kid did was way out of line. I saw somewhere that he may have eaten during his hunger strike.

I just wish media outlets had made more frequent use of the word "alleged" when describing these "racist incidents". I personally never saw any video or audio proof that any of these students had the n-word yelled at them from passing cars or by drunk students, as they alleged. I guess a police officer says he saw the supposed poop swastika, but why wouldn't he have taken a picture of it. And they have never announced any leads or theories on who put it there (other than racist white person). It just as easily might have been someone looking to inflame the situation even further (not unheard of in cases like this). Are we just supposed to take these aggrieved students at their word that all these slights & incidents did in fact happen? I seem to remember a similar rush to judgement against the Duke lacrosse players a few years ago, and the "gang rape frat" at UVA earlier this year, that turned out to be total fabrications when people took the time to dig a little deeper. Of course, when racism is alleged in America today, you are guilty until proven innocent, and even then, to many people you are still guilty even when you're proven innocent, because you probably would do something like that or say something like that if you didn't think you would get caught, you racist.

My thing is, regardless of whether this stuff all happened or not, I fail to see the nexus between these events and the President needing to go. I don't question whether all this stuff happened - that's frankly irrelevant to me on this very issue. I don't see the connection between someone getting slurred and a poop smear on the wall and the Prez needing to go. That's a heck of a logical leap

It's insane, really. This whole thing is all sorts of illogical.

I don't think there's any question that "racist" is the worst thing to be called in America, today.... There is virtually no defense in the court of public opinion.

One would think that, following the Duke lacrosse "incident" that the media would be pump the brakes a bit before diving in head first and accepting these allegations as fact... But these stories command a lot of attention and viewers, and the more sensational, the better. Rape culture at Virginia? Sure. Institutional racism at Missouri? Juicy!

I'm sure that the damage done to the academic reputation at Missouri will be significant following the sound bytes from that idiot Melissa Click and that other student today who was quoted as saying that the 1st Amendment fosters an "unsafe, hostile learning environment." I wonder about the widespread reputation of the major media and if it will suffer any damage as the result of this latest incident.

Here is a really good read on the whole thing. It's by Clay Travis, who openly admits to voting for Obama twice (knew I didn't like that guy other than being a UTk homer), but I think he's right for once in his life.

Love this line by Travis: "See, what these protesters believe is all too common on college campuses today -- the first amendment should only apply if you agree with what people are saying. Otherwise, you don't deserve the right to speak." Exactly.

These student protesters want free tuition and relief of all student debt. Do you think as alumni we can protest and demand free season tickets (Post Lambert) and skybox access for cocktails and food?
