I just received a notice from BCBS that my current policy will not be offered next year. They have suggested a similar plan but my monthly premiums will increase from $498.00 to $1298.00 per month for just my wife and I. We're both 57, in good health, non smoker, non drinker, never had any serious health problems. We own a small S corp business so my personal income does not qualify us for government help.
What are my options? Anyone have a good contact or a policy that they would suggest? Is this really what Obama had in mind in order to cover the uninsurable? $1298.00 is a second mortgage on a retirement home.

Actually, yes this is what Obama had in mind to cover the uninsured. You have money, so you pay double so someone else who does't do anything can get reduced coverage.

Hope and Change... Hopefully at some point a common sense approach for insurance will happen and this Obamacare bull shat will get repealed. Make it happen at the polls.

Has anyone reported the number of uninsured today versus the number uninsured prior to Obamacare? I would almost bet that more people who had insurance has dropped their coverage because of cost than the number of uninsured who now have insurance.

I would guess you are right. I doubt we will see the numbers on it. The government and the media do not want you you to see those numbers. It will help reveal what a disaster this plan has been.

these numbers are bad , population of 311 million and we have 10 million (govt nbr) on obamacare . they HOPE to sign up another million this year . this program sux and is still unpopular with majority of americans .

Saidog...I have heard of people moving over to Medishare...A Christian care ministry that offers health insurance. I am sure with medical costs and the number of people going on board that bubble will burst pretty soon but it may be a temporary band aid. Apparently it does not have to follow the Obamacare mandate so you do not have to be covered for maternity etc as Obamacare requires you to do. My family of 3 is paying right at a grand a month with Aetna and we are in our late 30s with a 2 year old. Medishare sounds a little too good to be true right now so I do not think it can last considering the high medical costs. I would read up on it and then you can decide. We have decided to stay with Aetna and go without toothpaste, breakfast, & now we only use one slice of toilet paper instead of wrapping several pieces around our hand. Obamacare wasn't the answer but we were going to get screwed either way going forward. The doctors want their income, the hospitals want to get as much as possible, and the insurance companies want to make their share as well. Its a vicious cycle with too many people on the government tit...Good Luck.

Insure Dawg, thanks I'll check into it. That's exactly why my policy is no longer available, it does not cover maternity. If my wife of 57 and tubes tied had a baby it would be Biblical. Sorry you're having to make those sacrifices, bad oral hygiene and a stinky butt are no laughing matter. :)
I've seen firsthand the consequences of dropping insurance. I have a 1st cousin that is my age and owns a poultry farm. He decided he could not afford insurance (debatable but his decision). He was recently diagnosed with throat cancer, had chemo and radiation, and will never recover financially. Very sad situation.

Several alumni associations have begun offering healthcare. I haven't had a need, so I'm not sure if UGA (or wherever you graduated from) offers it, but it'd be worth the ask. Also, I've heard of many small business associations using their collective numbers to obtain favorable rates from insurance providers.

I need to check with NFIB to see if they offer discounts to members.

saidog, i think numerous groups can help with coverage as stated above, you could check NRA, AMAC, and other religious and business groups that you can qualify for . we are seeing our country " fundamentally changed "right before our eyes, SAD .

Crazy considering he is a farmer. Most of the farmers I know make it look as if they make nothing and have went on the government tit when it comes to health insurance.

After my career of 43 years as an agent, I'd always say SHOP AROUND. It's not easy. It can be worth hundreds a month. Speak to a live person ONLY! this goes for auto and home too. Websites can leave off important coverage and if you don't understand well..........You bought it online!
