Honestly, I'm surprised the number isn't higher. Hopefully, Vegas knows something.
I really just want to have a chance to win it down the stretch. A solid, decisive win would do wonders for my blood pressure and morale; hell, any win would.
Hard to overstate how bad we need this game. Really must win 2/3 of remaining pre-conference games (some will say all 3)...but this one is the biggest. Man would it be sweet.
I worry about their size (especially Mitchell) and ganging up on Yante. Hopefully Ogbeide can play 20 minutes, 25--even better; use his fouls wisely and hopefully Edwards plays like a man, too. That's the only recipe I see for us to have a chance. Fox should tell Derek to play physical and expect to foul out, that his job is to challenge their bigs (Mitchell) and wear them down. We need him to push around and wear down Mitchell. We cannot allow Smith to kill us with multiple 3's. We cannot let Georges-Hunt live at the line.
Gonna need some 3's from Gaines and/or JJ and for Mann to play a good, smart game by his standards. Expecting the worst but definitely watching intently and hoping for the best.
A win tomorrow could really jump start our season. I think we will come ready to play focused as hell, but we'll have to see if that translates to a win after 40 minutes of ball. As others have said, recently we can't seem to win a big game at home. That needs to change tomorrow.
Please no Kessler. I swear I prefer Iduwe and just to forfeit any offense for the sake of Iduwe's length on D and around the basket--hell, have him pester Mitchell, too. Could be interesting to see Mitchell and Yante battle if they get matched up a lot. Geno's gonna get his minutes but he shouldn't get more than 15. If the team gets hot with Geno in the lineup up, ride it til we fizzle. Otherwise, he is a tool to steal minutes. Same with Iduwe. And Wilridge. And probably Turtle though I'd like to see him do something good, knock down a couple of shots, whatever. These first six are the players who give us a chance to win....it's on them:
JJ 30 mins
KG 30 mins
Mann 30 mins
Maten 33 mins
Ogbeide 17-20 mins
Edwards 17-20 mins
Iduwe 10 mins
Geno 10 mins
Turtle 10 mins
Wilridge 10 mins
...It's gotta be something like that. Minutes variable due to performance. Forget about Kessler, CMF--HE WILL GET ABUSED IN THE PAINT TOMORROW; THE ONE OR TWO MADE BASKETS HE MIGHT ADD DOES NOT NEGATE THAT.
Hopefully, our guard play gives us an edge and they don't shoot it well. If that happens, I could see us pulling it out. Gonna be interesting to see what kinda game we turn in. If Fox is the coach I think he is, he'll have a plan and have us prepared to fight like hell. It's anyone's guess if we actually ring the bucket and have success on offense. I'd take another 10 boards from JJ--or any guard for that matter. Charles Mitchell is cleaning the glass like Charles Barkley lately and he is who we must be most weary of--the game starts and ends with controlling him. Our guards should match up fine.
It really comes down to planning, execution (defense, too) and high-energy for us to have a shot. I haven't watched Tech much this year, but with Ogbeide slated to have "no restrictions," I think a good, SMART game plan gives us a chance if we execute it well. I haven't watched Tech play, I know little more than that their post personnel is superior and we have to be ready for it. They seem to have a decent squad on paper. Mitchell gobbles boards and space. Smith is a shooter. Georges-Hunt gets to the line. White is really more like a role player but good enough to hurt an under-sized team like us on the glass.
I'm calling a UGA lead at the half and a furious run from Tech in the second. Typical, right? Pray we can pull this out. Fingers crossed. I'll take it however we can get it.
