Smooth R&B? Seriously?
On preparing this year as opposed to last...
“Last year around this time, I had no idea that I was even going to play. That was my mindset: going in there and hoping to get a chance to play and finding any opportunity to make the team better. This year, I know I’m going to play, and I know my role has increased from last year. I’m just excited to go in there and start a new season off.”
On getting ready to hit someone else...
“We’re very anxious. It was a long summer and a long camp with hitting each other and beating each other up. It’s time for us to focus on someone else.”
On the elevated energy of practice this week...
“Definitely. It’s game week, so we have something to practice for instead of just day after day of practice. Now, it’s UL-Monroe, and we’re ready for those guys to come down here on Saturday and kick the season off with them.”
On the difference in Bryan McClendon and Thomas Brown...
“It’s pretty much the same. Those guys, for us, tell us it’s about running hard downhill, ball security, and things like that. They probably differ in how they teach us, in that they both do different drills during our individual periods, but other than that, it’s pretty much the same.”
On how the talent of the running back corps elevates his game...
“The competition will make all of us better. Every day we’re out there competing with each other. We pull each other up from the ground and focus on the mental aspect of the game together. It makes us all better.”
On how the competition of the quarterbacks elevated their game...
“I thought it did with those guys, too. I saw them pushing each other on the field and also in the study room.”
On the closeness of the quarterbacks away from the field...
“I’m sure they are off the field. We all cut up with each other. On the field, we have to compete with our team for starting positions, too. Out here, it’s all fun. We’re in college and enjoying ourselves. On the field, it’s business.”
On the closeness of the running backs...
“We all get along very well. We’re all very close. We hang out all the time.”
On Greyson Lambert getting the starting role..
“I wasn’t sure how I felt. I was happy for him. If anyone would have started, I would have been happy. It was very close in my opinion. Whoever started, it was meant to be. I couldn’t tell a difference. They’re all very good.”
On helping the quarterbacks...
“However I can, yeah.”
On taking steps toward personal goals...
“I think I am. Coaches are helping me. Teammates are helping me. We’re helping each other.”
On how he preps for a game...
“I’m kind of basic. I just pay attention to whatever I do that second. I’m fully focused at it. During the game week, I’m focused on school. After that, it’s all football to get my mind mentally prepared for the game. On game day, I listen to music to calm my nerves. I talk to teammates and talk to my family before the game to calm myself.”
On expectations...
“I don’t really feel any pressure as of right now. Maybe I’ll feel nervous at the game. I know I have my team with me, and we’re all together. It’s not just me that’s going to be out there. It’s going to be a lot of guys other than me.”
On what he listens to before a game...
“I like music that calms my nerves. I don’t need to get hyped. I’m naturally hyped, and I’m going to bring energy. I listen to J. Cole, slow songs, R&B mostly.”
