If his offenses with the Rams and Jets is any indication, then we will be predicated heavily on the run and we will use the hell out of the TEs. For as great statistically as Bobo was as an OC, I think he was very inconsistent with his use of the TE position.
Bobo was feast or famine. There were games where he would throw to them often and it was clear that he built their utilization in to the game plan. There were other times that the TE was completely MIA. Over the last three years, UGA TE's caught 0-1 balls in 12 games (8 games where zero balls were caught by TE's). That works out to 30% of the games. To me that is unacceptable. Opposing D's should have to account from RB's, WR's, QB's and TE's in all facets of the offensive game plan, every game. To his credit, Bobo did produce the # 1 receiving TE in the SEC in both 2013 (Lynch) and 2011 (Charles) as well as the #3 (Lynch) receiving TE in 2012. In 2014 though, UGA failed to place a TE in the top 40 receivers in the SEC.
Under the surface of those statitics though, is the fact that Bobo was forced in 2013 to target Lynch more often due to UGA losing 3 of their top 4 WRs for the all/most of the year. Understandably his numbers were somewhat inflated. Even in 2014 with a QB who struggled to through down field and a suspect WR core outside of Conley and Bennett, Bobo failed adequately use the TE position to our advantage.
With the expection of Hunter Henry at ARK and OJ Howard at BAMA, we have the most talented TE in the SEC. As a unit, we probably have the most talented TE's in the entire country. There is no reason why UGA should not produce at least 700-800 yards and 8-10 TD's at a minimum annually out of the TE position.
I think with Coach Schott, we will be much more unpredictable (because of using the TE), while also adhering to the tenants of blocking well up front and utilizing the run to set up the pass. Really excited to see what he does with our talent.
