Georgia is pushing hard for Smith. Kirby Smart and James Coley are in contact about every or every other day.
The relationship with Coley has taken off over the past couple of months. The two now talk often of off-field topics such as clothes and food (both are big Italian food guys).
Quarterback commit Ryan Montgomery has been in contact as well.
Smith’s official visit to Athens is set for May 31-June 2. Auburn, Alabama, and Tennessee are set for the following weekends.
I believe this race is between the Bulldogs and Volunteers, with Georgia holding a narrow lead at this point.
Gaston is easy to spot, which is a good thing since his practice jersey didn’t have a number on it. The 6-7, 360-pound behemoth did have some Georgia gloves on today.
Stacy Searels is in contact multiple times a week. Those talks are mostly checking in on Gaston and his family.
The staff has compared Gaston to Amarius Mims. Echoing that sentiment, Westlake coach Morris Mitchell said he believes Gaston has all the traits to be a “generational talent” at tackle.
Gaston is officially visiting Georgia the same weekend as Smith. South Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas are the other paid trips. The Ducks are a major player in this thing despite being the furthest from home.
