the last time we won a game 17-0, the opponent was tech and the year was 2013. The venue was Turner Field. Never waste a chance to bring that up.
That was probably the last loaded tech team that Danny Hall put on the field. Their lineup was unreal. But that night at Turner, everything just broke our way and tech disengaged (quit) fairly early into the game.
We beat them at their place a few weeks later. Had to overcome David Savage that night and beat those guys in extras for our first win at russ chandler since 2004. Good times in an otherwise forgettable season.
I think this afternoon wasn’t really about everything going our way and the other side quitting. It’s what happens when the game starts getting lopsided against a small school like that... they’re going to throw the bottom of their bullpen and the margin just keeps getting bigger. It probably won’t be as easy tomorrow just because Presbyterian isn’t as bad as the score suggests today. A double header really does them no favors, though...
One thing I’ll say too... we are obviously going to see better pitching starting next weekend, and I still think we are a ways off offensively, but we are doing a good job at the plate of being patient. We’ve drawn a TON of walks these last couple of games. It’s easy to say that’s just non-competitive pitching and I’m sure that’s part of it... but I think the other part is that we aren’t swinging at a lot of junk either. That’s very encouraging...
