For a couple of years it's been mostly on the offense to carry the Bulldogs in tough games. In 2012 and '13 Aaron Murray led a very good offense that was good enough to play for the NC, not so for our defense. Even last year, Hutson Mason led the SEC's most proficient offense that could have once again been good enough for the first ever NCAA playoff, but Jeremy Pruitt pretty much inherited a somewhat empty cupboard....especially when one considers several highly regarded defensive players preferred pampered lifestyles to hard work in seeking less disciplined DCs. In other words, all too often it was on the offense as the fledgling defense struggled at times in its growth.
Will 2015 be different? Will CJP's defense be stout enough to allow CBS' offense a mistake or two as the new system is proven on the field against our early season opponents? Or, to the contrary, will Shotty's offense have to find perfection early to once again produce enough points to keep us in the games?
As for me, I'm excited about Schottenmeir's offense and believe it will become a most prolific gainer.... over time. I'm excited too about Pruitt's second season defense and the deepening depth chart filled with speedier play and hard hitting tackling.
Here's hoping both can "bring game to the game".
