I have been following UGA Basketball since the 70's. I've seen what I think were the good coaches (Hugh/Tubby/Harrick) and the not so good (Guthrie/Jirsa/Felton). In my mind the jury was still out on Fox going into this year. For many reasons (most discussed on this board), I think this year has been a major disappointment and so much of it falls on Fox.
Now to the play last night that convinced me. On SC's last possession of the 1st half with time running down, we had a foul to give and never took it. We had an easy chance to foul with less than 5 seconds left and did not do it. Of course they drained the 3. It also drained the air out of the building and killed our momentum. SC then came out and scored the 1st 6 points of the 2nd half, so, our 2 point lead went to an 8 point deficit in the blink of an eye. The most troublesome part of all this is that Fox looked frustrated that they hit the 3, but, no frustration that we didn't foul. I think it's because he hadn't thought about using the foul. That's coaching people and I don't think it occurred to him. I know I'm picking on 1 play in his many years of coaching, but, that should have been so simple and we didn't even think about it.
I'll still be pulling for him because that's what I've done for 44 years, but, my expectations are back to 0 until either he or the next coach can show me something different.
