Opinions on this Georgia Political Correctness

Saw that earlier in the week.

I have no problem with written rules on athlete's uniforms. But he didn't put the headband on in the middle of the race. Officials saw it prior to the race and had no problem. If he had finished 100th no one would have had an issue (other racers reportedly wore similar headbands.) It had no effect on his finish. Punishment doesn't fit the crime.

press release from the GHSA said official told him pre-race to take it off...you are supposed to have nothing on it except logo of the company (Nike, Under Armour). He added to it with the bible verse. Official said he took it off and then when he saw the kid cross the finish line he had it on again.

GHSA Cross Country Coaches Handbook, page 3, bullet 7 “Beanies, toboggans, ear covers are permitted if of a single color, unadorned (one logo only).” Since this rule included headwear, the referee included the headband with the other headwear. Therefore, the headband had to be unadorned.

NFHS Rules Book, page 71, top paragraph reads “For wearing of an illegal uniform, when a violation is observed and noted by a meet official, the competitor shall be required to make the uniform legal before becoming eligible for further completion, and shall be issued a warning that a subsequent violation shall result in a disqualification from the event.”

back in the day my now wife was disqualified from a GHSA track event for having a belly button piercing.... Laid down on the grass after finishing and an official saw it, DQd on the spot.... Kinda petty
