I've given up on us ever signing a 5 star receiver. I don't think it's part of our plan. Here's why I'm mostly OK with that.
We're not going to break the bank on NIL. When we do spend there, we're going to spend on defense. Part of that is the team strategy of having an elite defense (I believe), part of that is the overall state of receivers who whine and cry and threaten to transfer the second things don't go their way. We would rather recruit receivers who are 1) willing blockers 2) stay for 4 years and develop. In that order. And you don't get on the field until you've proven you can do the first- that's contrary to what everyone else in the league does.
The upside of this is you get guys who are committed to your program who aren't breaking the bank. The downside is there will be gsmes like against Alabama last year where they're just not good enough to get open.
