Overall encouraging. But we weren't ready to win this game.

By that I mean maturity as a team. Marquette is probably a top ten team and they have played some very tough competition already. We have not and it showed. We were not able to impose our will in the paint as with our other opponents. And Marquette took care of the rock when they needed to.
We outrebounded them, had virtually the same amount of steal, assists and blocks. Our 18 turnovers almost all led to buckets or free throws for them. We knew going in tos would kill us and combined with horrendous 3pt shooting in the first half we were toast. But, we never gave in and kept coming back. The problem is we never got a lead but for a minute. Our defense was good, but Marquette mad a bunch of tough shots. I warned at halftime about giving the big, white boy open looks and we come out and give three in the first few minutes. That was basically the margin in the game.

We have issues that need to be addressed.

1) Asa needs to get the ball more on the block. He is not getting enough looks. He needs to be stronger with the ball and start shooting his fts better. While Godfrey was virtually a no show, although he played 19 minutes. He played poorly when in the game. He needs to get more looks low as well. Somto only got 10 minutes which was a mystery to me. His blocks and slams can motivate us, but only if he's playing.
2) We have to get our tos to under 12pg, or better.
3) Good teams win the important possessions. We have got to recognize when we cut it to 3-4 pts the next couple possessions will be huge for us and them. We messed those up way too often. Sometimes a coach needs to take a timeout and just say boys look where we are and be sure to execute.
4) Poor ft shooting hurt us bad today, especially the last 5-6 minutes when we missed at least two front ends of 1+1. Credit to Abbot for knocking down two big ones.

We should grow from, this game. The move-up in competition was a wake-up call hopefully to what we need to improve on to be the team many of us believe we can be.
