From Rivals HQ:
"Tonight we are having a Planned Outage. It will begin at 11 p.m. PT (West Coast time) and last for approximately 2.5 hours - ending approximately 1:30 a.m. PT.
The first 30 minutes will be a full outage, as we are updating we'll be finishing our upgrading of top-of-the-line databases the best that Yahoo can get their hands on. These will also have multiple levels of monitoring which is a critical element that we wanted.
The next two hours will be scores of load tests. This will be testing all of the gifts that Yahoo co-founder David Filo has given Rivals - including 13 new databases, a new network and 100 new servers. The ultimate goal is use the final two hours of the Planned Outage to ensure they all work harmoniously.
The outage time will help us find any possible bottlenecks with the new system and help us prioritize our work over the next few days before NSD."
