I've read for years it doesn't matter what play we call we just have to "execute"... What does that mean? If everybody blocked who they were supposed to on every play we would be breaking off 10-15 yard runs every play. If qb's never missed a read and were 100% accurate we would score at will....it just doesn't happen that way. Good play callers put good players in the best situations to be successful...PEROD! Good play callers manipulate defenses, use multiple formations, get guys in space, see what the defense is trying to do, adjust to their weakness, etc, etc....Scheme and play calling is a HUGE part of the game. I get that talent and execution is the key but don't tell me play calling is not important...
