Player, Mike Chappel. Talked a lot of hoops. We were world's apart. His son was a top recruit in the mid 90s and went to Duke. Started 2 years and both years won the ACC. Transferred to Michigan State, sat out then played 2 years for Izzy. Both years won the B1G and 2000 won the National title.
I told him I loved college basketball and how 1983 felt as a teen. He asked about UGA and I told him how it is a big year if we get in the NCAA. He had a kid play for two of the greatest coaches ever who just expect to be in the tourney and have a shot at the title. What would it be like to have that year in and year out? Maybe I should just learn to do without UGA basketball and quit as a fan?
We cannot continue to let our administration treat basketball as a 3rd tier sport. I honestly believe that we are lucky to have coaches like Haack, Burhle, Diaz because our last couple ADS haven't hired coaches like those. With so much talent in the state, we have to find a way to keep 3 of them each and every year.
