This one will be much briefer as it’s been a long, great weekend and NCC is/was a lightweight opponent.
Silas Demary made us feel way more comfortable than how we were playing due to his steals. Four steals. I know two in the first half led to two layups by him, and maybe all four steals led to points. His defense was huge.
Melendez, JAR, and Thomasson struggled from the field going a combined 2 for 17, but I’m not quite putting that all on them. The 1st half the scorers table looked like a Chick-fil-A drive thru we were checking some many people in and out of there. No one could get comfortable.
White seems to want to roll with Justin Hill a good bit. And Hill played well tonight. 11 points and 4 assists with only one turnover. He shot 50% from the field.
Jabri came through late from the free throw line, but it was important how he got to the free throw line. He crashed the boards hard twice basically in a row and got fouled both times. Good sign.
Jalen Deloach is getting comfortable and making plays.
We knew tonight might be rough given the big Wake game Friday night and a possible emotional hangover from that and the Ole Miss football game last night. Also, we probably didn’t fully respect NCC. But we didn’t do ourselves any favors with how we were running offense tonight. The ball was sticking again the whole first half. It looked extremely clunky. We also didn’t probably give Melendez the minutes he has earned the last two games, today. White is going to have to work to make sure he keeps the emotional state of the fellas together. Keep their confidence high.
We got two huge W’s this weekend and should have some confidence at the same time having a lot that we can work on. I’m excited to be 2-1. Let’s keep building! Go Dawgs!
