I had to watch this game on my phone while moving around at work, so I’m hoping to rewatch later and provide maybe some more on what just happened.
1. That is by far the best guards we have played. Miami has 3-4 guards that can really move. We didn’t look completely overwhelmed by them, but they were a notch above us at just about every guard and wing spot. And they didn’t even shoot that well tonight…
2. We are struggling with post entry. Our bigs are catching it way too far out when they catch it. It feels like they are getting it 15 feet away from the hoop. We can’t get as much off the ball movement to create a good shot for others when our bigs have the ball way out there. We have to get to them closer. And yes, I know they need to score more and more efficiently (1-7 from field goals) when they get it.
3. I thought Blue was dynamite. So much confidence. But what was great is that he is also getting to the rim. We know Jabri, Noah, and Blue can shoot it, we need easy buckets at the hoop as well. Blue made that happen as well as cut them up from down town. Kid is pure. Got lost a couple of times on D that hurt us.
4. Jabri was on ice. As hot as Blue started, Jabri was absolutely that cold. But he did finish with 13 in the second half. Good to see him keep fighting. Jabri has to continue to look to make a play from inside the arc. He mixed it up inside 3 times in the second half and got 7 points. His points per game is high enough that teams are going to start focusing on him, making it tougher. Miami was a blanket on him in the 1st half. The lanes should be wide open. Demary and Melendez need to keep forcing the issue at the rim. But man the little two footers just weren’t falling for us tonight.
5. It just can’t be said enough. Demary is a grown man. 8 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists. Great line. He needs to keep going to the rack. No need in settling for bombs right now. With our three bombers out there, lane should be open. But 6 turnovers is…sheesh. First time we have seen that and I truly think that’s going to be an exception.
6. We can’t have only 4 points total from Tchewa and Deloach. Just can’t happen.
7. Our zone to start the second half was leaking water and they got two ridiculously easy lay ups to really keep us at arms length after we just cut it to 7 to start the half.
Flush this one and move on. Let’s get the W Sunday. Go Dawgs!
