This isn't sour grapes, but if Cantwell is really all that he will play in the NFL and make tens of millions of dollars and the couple of million difference he gets from Miami now will not be a big deal in the big scheme of things. What he can't buy is the college experience he may be losing by going to Miami. I'm not sure a country kid from Missouri fits into the Miami scene. The campus is nice but the surroundings are not, Coral Gables is not a college town. Twenty years from now he won't know the feeling of walking through the arches on the old campus with the leaves changing on a breezy fall day and having his kids ring the victory bell after the game. Miami has none of that, they play in a off campus pro stadium that is at best half filled. Some relationships from college last a lifetime, these are the guys that will be in your wedding and will be your pole bearers at your funeral. As a guy going to the highest bidder at a semi-pro college, I wonder how many of those relationships he'll have. You see the bond that the Georgia guys in the NFL have, I doubt the mercenaries from Miami have that same bond. Smart has created a fraternity of players that will come back year after year, don't see that happening at Miami.
